Be it known that I, CHARLES A. MULLEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Sistersville, in the county of Tyler and State of West Virginia, have invented a new and Improved Electric Speed or Pressure Control Device, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The invention has for its general objects to provide a device of this character which is of comparatively simple and inexpensive construction, reliable and eiiicient in use, and
.so designed that it can be applied as an attachment-to pressure, speed or other indicaters of that type including a hand or needle movable over a dial.
-A-more specific object of the invention is the provision of an attachment which is applied to the face of the indicator, whereby an electrical contact cooperates with the needleor hand so that when the latter reaches a predetermined position the electric circuit will 'be closed to short-circuit the spark plug of the engine.
yWith such" objects in view, and others which willappear as the description proceeds, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be set forth with particularityin the following descrlption and claims appended hereto.

around the casing 2, to which it is clamped by a set-screw 7 passing through the ring. By this means the ring 6 can be adjusted to any desired position around the casing. Theusual glass of the gage is removed so as to accommodate a pair of arcuate contacts 7 and '8 carried by the ends of oppositely disposed members 9 and 10, respectively,
such members being adjustably clamped to the face of the ring 6 by screws 11. The members 9 and 10 are electrically separated from the ring by insulation 12, as shown in .Fig. 2. The outer extremities of the members 9 and 10 have binding posts 13 and 14, respectively, whereby electric wires can be connected therewith. The arcuate contacts 7 and 8 are concentric with the center of the hand 3, and they are spaced apart so that the hand will have a suitable range of movement without engaging with the contacts.
In the diagram shown in Fig. 3 the attachment is shown in connection with a single cylinder engine, there being only one contact employed with the gage A. For a two-cylinder engine, both contacts? and 8 will be employed and each will be connected with a spark plug. The cylinder D of the engine has the usual ignition device or spark plu 15 which has one terminal connected wit the magneto or source of ignition current 16 by means of the wire 17. Leading from this wire or from the spark lug is another wire 18 which is connected tlirou h a switch 19 with the binding post 13 of t e contact 7. The contact 7 is insulated from the gage while the needle is connected to ground, as is also one side ofthe magneto, so that when the needle or hand 3 engages the contact 7, the circuit will be completed by way of the wires 17 and 18, contact 7,
starting the engine so that the spark plug will not be short circuited.
While the invention is shown in can n tion with a pressure gage it is to'be under stood that it can be used in connection with a speed gage having a movable hand, whereby the current established can be diverted from the spark plug of the engine underpredetermined conditions as to speed. From the foregoing description taken inv described the principle of operation, to-
gether with the device which I now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, I desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and. that such changes may be made when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A gage attachment of the class, described comprising a ring, means for clamping the ring tothe body of a gage, a member insulated from and adiustahle diametrically of the ring, said member having its inner ends shaped to form a contact to be engaged by the hand of the gage, and means for adjustably supporting the member .on the ring.
2. A gage attachment of the class described comprising a ring, means for clamping the same to t e body of a gage, spaced contact members disposed within the ring and members supporting the contacts and insulating the same from the ring, said members being adjustable toward or from each, other to vary the distance between the contacts. i
3. The combination of a gage including a casing, a dial, and ahand, with an electric governor attachment therefor comprising a ring clamped to the casing, contacts carried by and'insulated from the ring and disposed at opposite'sides of the hand for engagement thereby to complete a circuit when the hand reaches one or more predetermined positions, and adjustable means for mounting the contacts to be moved toward or from each other.
