DRINKING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 7, 1917.
Application filed August 10, 1916. Serial No. 114,283.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, county of Los Angeles, and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Drinking Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a drinking device and has for its object to provide a simple, light, portable and sanitary device wherethrough water or other fluids may be imbibed at any public drinking station or fountain without danger of contamination and infection, and in which the water or other fluid passing therethrough will be filtered.
A form of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing, in which- F ignre 1 is an elevation of my device.
Fig. 2 is a segregated view of same.
Fig. 3 is a section of the tube showing the filtering medium.
Fig. 1 is a detail view of the cap closing one end of the tube adapted to form a receptacle for fluids, and
Fig. 5 is a view showing the operative position of the cap.
My invention consists of a tubular body 1, of any suitable material, in which is a trans versely disposed filtering medium, as a screen 2, held in place by a hollow annulus 3, between the outside of which and the inside of the tubular body 1, the screen is wedged, and which provision enables the ready removal and replacement of the screen.
Over the lower end of said tubular body 1, is fitted a cap member 4;, having a lateral opening 5, therein, through which fluid may be admitted or drawn through the tubular body 1, when the cap is moved by the user to the position shown in Fig. 5, in which position it is held on the tubular body 1, by friction.
This cap member 4 forms a cup which may be placed directly under a faucet or other conduit discharging fluids, and also forms a guard to prevent sand, dirt and other foreign substances being drawn into the mouth when water charged with such substances is taken from shallow springs, brooks and the like.
After using, the cap member 4:, is forced back upon the tubular member, as shown in Fig. 1, and the opening in the cap member 4:, as well as the bottom of the tubular body, is thus sealed.
A cap 6 may also be provided for the other end of said tubular body.
l/Vhat I claim is A drinking device comprising an imperforate tubular body open at both ends, a filtering gauze therein, means to hold said gauze in said body, a cap on each end of and frictionally attached to and normally closing the ends of said tubular body, one
of said caps having a lateral opening therein and being movable on and relatively to the longitudinal axis of said body to uncover the opening therein and afford communication between said tubular body and said cap.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
