To all whom it may concern:

Be-it .known that I, WILLIAM "GRAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brookline, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain" new and useful Improvements in Vehicle-Lamps; and I do hereby declare the following to bee full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will en- "able others skilled in the'art to which it 7 appertains to make and use the same. In autompbile lamps now. in use, a parabolic reflector is used with an incandescent lamp bulb supported with its filament at or near the focus of the reflector. the right-hand portion 3 is of frosted glass,
left-hand portion 4 is of clear glass, or trans-' parent materlal. The clear glass portion comprises one vertical half of the lamp front and affords full road illumination, while the frosted portion 3 comprises the other vertical half of the lamp front and prevents rays of light extending from the lamp toward the. left, so that persons on foot or in vehicleson the left-hand side of the vehicle will not be dazzled by light from the lamp. In America, where the rule of. the road requires one to pass vehicles moving in the opposite direction by turning to the right, the frosted portion of the glass would be in the position shown in the drawings, that is, on the right-hand side of the lamp, as viewed from the front, while elsewhere, in places where the rule of the road requires meeting vehicles to pass to the left, the
frosted portion would be on the left-hand being, therefore, non-transparent or impervious to direct light transmission, while the cuts off the direct transmission of light.
So, the word impervious, as used herein, is
not intended to limit the invention to constructions in which illumination is afforded by the blind side of the lamp.
