MICHIGAN.
CLEAN-OUT MEANS FOR CLOSET-BOWLS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 31, 1917.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB L. REIcHERT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boyne City in the county of Gharlevoix and State of Michigan, have invented certain useful Im rovements in Clean-Out Means for Closetowls, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanyin drawing.
This invention re ates to improvements in a cleanout means for siphon bowls, one object of the invention being the provision of a means whereby a clogged bowl may be readily cleaned out without the necessity of disconnecting the bowl from the drainage tap.
a A further object of this invention is the provision of a practical and inexpensive device of this character which is readily attached to all bowls and which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction and thorou hly efficient and practical in use.
In t e accompanying drawings Figure lis a cross section through a bowl showing the present device in use thereon.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail sectional view through the bowl and showing the present device in closed position.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the main sleeve.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 5 designates the bowl which has formed in the forward wall thereof intermediate of the water way 6 therein, the opening 7 which is formed when the bowl is manufactured.
The present device 8 includes the main sleeve 9 which is provided with retaining lugs 10 which engage in the wall of the opening 7 at diametrically opposite points thereof and thus hold the sleeve from outward movement, these lugs being preferably received within notches 11 cut into the inner face of the bowl 5 and open into the opening 7 so that the lugs when engaged in the notches 11 will revent the turning of the sleeve 8 within the opening, as will be apparent. I
The sleeve or collar 9 is interiorly screw threaded as at 12 for the reception of the threaded portion 13 of the closure or plug 14 rovided with the manipulating rib 15, sai plug 14 being of lesser length than the sleeve or collar 9.
The collar 9 is further provided with the exteriorly threaded portion 16 for the reception respectively of the retaining ring 17 havin the wrench receiving port-ion 18, so that t e ring 17 may engage the outer face of the bowl adjacent the opening 7, and thus clamp the sleeve 9 in position as shown in Fig. 2.
The two washers 19 are, adapted to fit within the annular recess 20 of the bowl, and thus form a tight joint to prevent any leakage at this point.
The removable cap 21 is provided to close the outer end of the sleeve 9 and thus give an ornamental appearance to the device and prevent tampering with the plug 14.
What I claim as new is 1. A cleanout means of the character described comprising a main sleeve having in- .ternally and externally threaded ends respectively, an anchoring projection exteriorly of the sleeve for preventing the turning of the sleeve or the outward movement thereof when engaged in the opening of a wall,a locking ring adjustably engaged with the external threads of thesleeve for the fastening of the same in the wall, a plug detachably engaged with the internal threads in the sleeve forthe removal thereof from the latter, and a cap detachably engaging the internal threads of the sleeve for closing one,
end thereof.
2. A cleanout means of the character described comprising a main sleeve having internally and externally threaded ends respectively, an anchoring projection exteriorly of the sleeve for preventing the turning of the sleeve or the outward movement thereof when engaged in the opening of a wall, a locking ring adjustably engaged with the external threads of the sleeve for the fastening of the same in the wall, a plug detachably engaged with the internal threads in the sleeve for the removal thereof from the latter, a ca detachably engagingv the internal threa' s of the sleeve for closing one end thereof, and a rib formed on the plug transversely thereof at one end of the same.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
- JACOB L. REICHERT.
