Be it known that I, EMILE DoL'rnn, of the town of Sintaluta, in the Province of Saskatchewan, Canada, have invented cer tain new and useful Improvements in Grainlicltling Devices, of which the following is the specification.

The invention relates to improvements in devices for treating grain for smut and the object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive, easily operated device which the farmer can use for treating his grain in an effective and simple manner, a feature of the device being that it not only treats the grain for smut but also removes any wild oats which may be in the grain.

. A further object of the invention is to provide a device in which there is no loss of pickling solution.

With the above objects in view the invention consists essentially in a trough like holder mounted on a central rocker and divided by cross screens into two end compartments and a central trapping compartment and a removable filler cross board coacting with the screens, the parts being arranged and constructed as hereinafter more particularly described and later pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing in which 2- Figurel represents a perspective view of the complete device.

1 represents a trough like holder formed from bottom boards 2, side boards 3 and 4 and end boards 5 and 6, such being put together so that they are watertight. Preferably the side and end boards incline to provide tapering sides and ends and further the side boards are fashioned so that they are of a less height at the center than at the ends.

holder into two end compartments 13 and 1a and a central trapping compartment 15. It will be noted that the upper edges of these screens are below the upper edges of the side boards 8 and 4: so that water flowing over the said edges of the screens will not overflow the sides of the holder.

lVhen the article is to be used for treating grain, the treating solution is placed in, say the right hand compartment 141, the end board 16 having been previously positioned againstthe screen 12 as shown in Fig. 2. The weight of the solution holds the device in the position shown in Fig. 2 with the right hand end restin on the floor.

The grain to be treated, say wheat, which more or less always contains a certain quantity of wild oats is next placed in the solution and is stirred or agitated to bring the liquid in close contact with the kernels.

\Vhen one considers that the grain has been thoroughly treated he goes to the left hand end of the machine and gradually forces that end down. As the end goes down the liquid in the right hand compartment 14 overflows over the upper edge of the board 16 and the screen 11 and carries grain, consisting prinin the compartment 15.

After all the floating grain has been caught in the latter compartment the board 16 can be withdrawn to allow all of the liquid to drain out of the then elevated grain in the compartment 1 1. As soon as this grain has properly drained the treated grain can be removed.

The compartment 13 is then ready to re ceive further grain for treatment and the operation as above described is repeated to treat the grain in the compartment 18 to trap the wild cats in the compartment 15 and to drain off the liquid again into the compartment 14.

The cats caught can be removed from time to time.

From the above description it will be obvious that this machine affords a very easy way oftreating the grain as Well as gives the farmer a very cheap and eiiicient device for doing theowiork. What I clailn as my invention is 1. A device for treating liquid solution comprising a tiltable partitioned holder having the partitions allowing of the flow of liquid through them to the exclusion of the grain and means for selectively closing the partitions to the eX- clusion of the flow of the liquid through them.
