This invention relates to new and useful improvements in trolley wlre supports, such as are employed to detachably engage and suspend electric trolley wires from span wires or other suitable supports.
The invention isdesigned with a view of generally improving and simplifying the construction of devices of this kind and of providing means for detachably clamping the wire to be supported .so that the same may be readily connected or adjusted therein as occasion may require. To form a support of the unit character, and pomessing features that prevent accidental disengagement of its parts. A further object of my invention is to provide a device that will carry or support a trolley wire between 1ts clamping members with only a limited amount of force so as to permit the wire to be drawn or slid in a longitudinal direction to the point of being taut. j
W th these and other objects in view the invention resides and consists in. the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter. more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claims hereto appended, it being understood that various c anges in the form, proportion,
size and minor details of construction within the scope of the claims may be resorted to without departure from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advanta es of the inventlon.

resents a hanger which may be connected to any suitable supporting means and as will be seen serves to carry" the bracket 6 shown secured thereto by screw bolts 7. In practice thisbracket includes a pocket 8 open upon its under side and in which a stud 9 is secured as by means of a suitable electrical insulation 10. The upper end of the stud is preferably provided with a head to better hold it in position while the lower peripheral portion is threaded to form a screw end 11. The threaded end of the stud extends through a plate 12 which issec'ured in position by the insulation of the bracket.
The hanger further includes a pair of jaws 13 and 14 which in practice lie side by side one being movable with respect to the" other. The fixed jaw 13 includes an upper shank portion 15 having a threaded hole 16 therethrough to receive the threaded end 11 of the stud. It further includes an inclined'ex- 'ternal shoulder 17 upon its central portion and a transverse shoulder 18 upon its inner side. The said last named shoulder is located below the threaded shank of the jaw. The lower web of the jaw is provided with a transverse rib 19 wh ich is in alinement-with the rib 20 upon the companion jaw" 14. These ribs serve to-ei'igage the grooves '21 in the opposite sides ofthe electrical conducting wires 22 which they support.
The movable jaw 14 corresponds in shape and design to the lower portion of the jaw liq formed. A tapered housing 26surrounds the shoulder of the said jaws when assembled in the manner shown in Figs. 1 and 2 and in a way to hold the smaller and movable jaw upon the shoulder 18 of the fixed jaw. The upper peripheral portion of this housing is threaded to receive the adjusting nut 27 that encircles the shank of the jaw 13 as well as the threaded portion of the housing. A lug 28 is formed upon the under edge portion of this nut 2'? and is designed to be turned in toward the reduced diameter 29 situatedbeneath the threads of the nut 27 in a way to prevent the, nut from becoming disengaged. A pin 30 is mounted in the housing to engage a recess in the outer side of the movable jaw to retain the parts together.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the jaw 13 is secured on the stud 9 by having its threaded shank portion turned on to the threaded end 11 of said stud and that the co-acting jaw is movable and more or less free to be opened and closed with relation to the fixed jaw, until the nut 27 is turned back upon the housing and against the plate 12 of the bracket which action obviously,
tends to shove' the housing down upon the beveled shoulders of the jaws so as to force their lower edge portions together and clamp the conducting wire therebetween. In the movement of the smaller jaw it swings upon a pivot formed by the upper inner corner 31 of the member 14 bearing against the inner member 13. After the trolley wire has been made taut the nut 27 is rotated upon its threaded engagement with the housing 26 until the upper face engages the plate 12 and by a continued rotation of the nut the combined length of the nut and housing are increased -to hold the parts in position. lVhen it becomes necessary to disconnect the wire the nut is simply turned down uponthe neck of the housing so as to allow the latter to slip up on the shank of the jaws in 'a manner to release the same.
Having thus described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat 1. In :1 trolley wire supporting device, the combination of a. support. a jaw fixed with reference to the support, 'a housing adjustably mounted upon the aw. a nut-adjustably attached to the housing and against the support. a movable jaw mounted within the housing and operated by the latter to hold a trolley wire with reference to the support.
2. In a trolley wire suspension, the combination of a support. a jaw threadably attached to the support. a companion jaw adjustably held by the first. named jaw, one of the jaws having a beveled shoulder, operating members adjustably mounted upon the jaws to clamp a trolley wire and means exterior surfaces, an actuating member engaging said tapered surfaces, a nut threadably attached to said member and seated against the hanger for adjusting the aws to clamp and support a trolley wire.
5. In a device for supporting trolley wires, the combination of a hanger, a threaded stud secured therein, asuspending jaw attached thereto, a companion jaw movably mounted in the fixed jaw, the jaws forming a tapered body portion, a housing mounted thereon, and an operating nut thrcadably engaging the housing and seated against the hanger for adjusting the jaws to the trolley wire with respect to the hanger.
6. A trolley wire support comprising a support, a jaw fixed with reference to the support and having a shank for attachment to the support and a shoulder upon the inner side of the jaw, a companion jaw having means to engage theslioulder to support the jaw, the two said jaws forming an annular beveled shoulder, a conical collar encircling the said shoulder to hold the jaws in position, and a nut threadably attached to the collar and seated against the support for adjusting the collar and jaws with ret'erence to the support.
7. A trolley wire support comprising a support, a jaw including a shank with an opening thcrethrough and a shoulder beneath and in line with the opening, panion jaw having means to engage the shoulder to support the jaw, a fixed stud to enter the opening and engage the second jaw in amanner to tilt and clamp the same, a collar encircling the two jaws to hold. the same in position. and a nut threudably at tached to the collar and seated against the support for adjusting the collar and jaws with reference to the stud. 8. As a means of supporting trolley wires, n combination a'support, a housing containing a pair of relatively movable clamping jaws one of which is threadably attached to a hanger, fixed to the support, an actuating member adjustably mounted with relatioii to the housing to operate against the support to force the jaws upon the trollev wire substantially as described. j
