APPLICATION FILED MAY 29. I915.

CLINTON C. REYNOLDS, OF LE ROY, ILLINOIS.
SUPPORT OR STAND.
Application filed May 29, 1916.
To all whom it mayconcem:
Be it known that L'CLINTON C. REYNOLDS, a citizen of the United States, a resident of Le Roy, in'the county of McLean and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Supports or Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in stands or'supports and is particularly directed to a supporting stand for a barrel, can or similar receptacle, whereby the same may be securely held in a vslightly elevated position and readily tilted for totally or partially emptying its contents or for refilling.
A further object is the provision of such a stand from which the barrel, can or other receptacle maybe readily removed.
A further object is the provision of'such a device whereby the receptacle may be readily tilted and readily returned to its normal position.
Further objects include improvements in details of construction and arrangement whereby a simple and efficiently operating device of this character is provided, capable of supporting and handling receptacles of various sizes and shapes and for containing the various liquids or fluids.
To the accomplishment of the foregoing and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, my invention consists in the combination, construction and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and then sought to be defined in the appendedclaims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a .part hereof, and which show merely for the purpose of illustrative disclosure, a preferred embodiment of my invention, it being understood that various changes may be made in practice within the scope of the claims without digressing from my inventive idea.
In the drawing,
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a device constructed according to my invention, supporting a barrel, the complete tilted position-beingindicated in dotted lines;
Fig.2 is a-rear elevation al view of thedevice, shown in Fig. 1, the barrel being com- I is adapted to engage the upper edge of the pletely tilted.
Referring now to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates the base of the device which as shown, is constructed of pipe, though any other suitable material may be used. It includes the horizontally extended side members 2 connected by the transverse Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 26, 121 to Serial No. 100,437.
member 8 and having the vertical members 4: extending upwardly therefrom, the ends of which are provided with the elbow 5 to provide a horizontal pivot 6 on which the barrel, can or other receptacle is pivoted.
The barrel, can or other receptacle is held in a frame work 7, which includes the flat bar or strap members 8 which extend across the bottom thereof and up along the sides as at 9, having the outwardly turned flange 10 adapted to receive the threaded end 11 of the adjusting hook 12 which fits over the end of the barrel, can or other receptacle, and has the nut 13 secured on the screw threaded portion 11 for adjusting purposes. The bar or strap member 8 extends at right angles to the bar or strap member 8 and is divided as at 13' so as to permit the ready removal of the barrel, can or other receptacle, having the securing plate 14 pivoted to one end as at 15, and having the bolt and nut connection 16 on the other side of the line of division. WVhen it is desired to remove the barrel, can or other receptacle, it is only necessary to loosen the hooks 12 and remove the bolt and nut connection 16 which releases the upwardly extending portion of the bar or strap member 8 so that the barrel, can or other receptacle may be readily removed therefrom in a lateral direction.
Means is provided for locking the barrel, can or other receptacle when in its com pletely tilted position and also to assist in supporting the same and returning it to its normal position, including the pair of arms 17 which are pivoted on the transverse member 3, as at 18, and connected together by the transverse member 19. Links 20 are pivotally connected to the upper ends of arms 17 as at 21 and are also pivotally connected at their other ends to the lower por tions of the upwardly extending parts 9 of the strap or bar members 8, as at 22. At the rear ends, these links are provided with the stop 23 in the form of a hook adapted to engage the vertical member 4 of the frame when the barrel, can or other receptacle is in its vertical position, and at its other end has the overlapping flange member 24 which arm 17 when the barrel, can or other receptacle is in its completely tilted position, the pivots being arranged so that a lock is formed between these parts.
vIn use, a barrel, can or other receptacle may be readily inserted and supported by the frame work, the pivot 6 extending through the vertical portions 9 of one of the bar or strap members- S. l/Vhen it is desired to partially empty the ba1=rel,:can or other receptacle, it may be readily tilted to the desired degree, the parts being arranged so that it is counter-balanced to permit ready movement or it may be completely tilted if that be necessary and held in that position by means of the locking construction specified. In this position, it may also be readily filled through the usual bung-hole. It is only necessary to break the joint or else to givethe bottom end of the barrel, can, or other receptacle, a fairly sharp blow to cause it to return to its normal vertical position.
The deviceoperates therefore siinply,an d efficiently for the desired purpose, and capable of a variety of uses where it is desired to maintain a supply of liquid and to dispense the same in small quantities from time to time.
What I claim is 1. A device of the character described including in combination, a base having spaced upright members, a supporting frame work for holding abarrel or other receptacle pivotally connected between said uprightomembers, said frame work including strap membersadapted to extendacross theibottom of the receptacle and up alongthe sidesthereof, oneof said strap members being divided and having removable means forsecuring it to- ;gether, and hook members adjust-ably secured to said strap members-andadapted to engage the top of the receptacle.
