Be it known that I, WYATT M. INsKo, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oarlisle, in the county of Nicholas and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grain-Doors; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the artto which itappertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to grain doors and comprehends certain new and useful improvements ingrain doors for railwaycars of the type that are removable and comprise a number of hingedly connected door sections which may be folded.
The primary object of my invention is to provide a removable sectional grain :door for railway cars that is provided with effect ve outlet means including a flexible and extensible discharge spout so arranged that the contents of the car may be discharged therethrough without necessitating removal of the door.
Another object is to provide a car door which consists of upper and lower sections that are hingedly connected with each other at a point near the center of the door, the upper section comprising a pair of hinged portions, the upper being arranged to swing inwardly so that when desired a person may get into the car without necessitating the removal of the entire door.
Another object is to generally improve grain car doors so as to render them more practical, reliable and efficient in operation and capable of being assembled and disassembled without materially increasing the cost of manufacture thereof.
The above and additional objects are accomplished by such means as are illustrated in the accompanying drawings, described in the following specification and then more particularly pointed outin the claim.
With reference to. the drawings, wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of my invention as it is reduced to practice, and throughout the several views of which similar reference numerals designate corresponding parts- Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a grain car showing my door attached and in closed position,

Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view taken comprises lower and upper door sections 1' and 2 respectively that are hingedly connected with each other by specially constructed hinges 3 which are mounted upon the outer faces of the sections 1 and 2. Each of the hinges 3 comprises leaves 4 and 5. Rolled ears are-carried upon the opposed ends of the leaves 4 and 5, said opposed ends being disposed in spaced relation to the meeting edges of the sections.
7 A link member 6 having ears on its end connects the leaves 4 and 5 with one another. Hinge pins 7 are inserted through the ears on the members 4, 5, and 6, said ears alining. It will thus be seen when the sections 1 and 2 are folded, they are held spaced apart for a distance, equal approximately to the length of the link member 6. This arrangement is for a purpose to be later more fully described.
The upper section 2 comprises upper and lower sections 8 and 9 respectively of the same size and which are hingedly connected with each other by suitablehinges 10 which are arranged upon the inner faces of the sections 8 and 9 so as topermit the upper section 8 to fold or swing inwardly relative to the car.
As a means for holding the upper section 8 or in fact the door securely within the frame, I provide an L-shaped bracket 11 to be secured upon the lower face of the upper horizontal bar 12 of the door frame A and having its one arm portion depending from said bar 12 and apertured to receive a bolt 13 carried by the upper section 8. The bolt 13 is inserted through said member 11 and a 11111; 14 is turned on the threaded end of the I provide means for holding the sections 8 and 9 of the upper section 2 in comparatively rigid relation to one another which consists of a locking metallic strap 15 that is hinged as zit-16 to -the lower 'section 9 of the up-persection 2 and arranged to extend upwardly and engage the outer face of the upper section 8. The free end of the strap 15 is longitudinally slotted to receive a bolt 16' inserted from the'inside ofthe upper 3 section 8 and having a nut 17 turned on its outer or threaded end. It will be seen that when the "bolt 16 is inserted through the slotted end of the strap and the nut 17 turned to clampthe strap upon the outer face of the upper section 8, a comparatively rigid structure isprovided.
Fixed upon the inner faces of the sections 1 and 9 are back strips 18 which are apertured and arranged to aline with apertures in thesections 1 and 9. When the door sections are folded as shown in Fig. 4 the back strips 18 are removed.
