To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERALD DICKERSON, a citizen of the United States residinga't Atlantic City, in the county of Atlantic and State of New Jersey, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety-Envelops and Fastening Devices Therefor, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved safety envelop and clasp for fastening'the same, the object of the invention being to provide an improved envelop of this kind which may be very readily sealed and fastened and which when fastened cannot be opened without injuring the envelop to such an extent as to betray the fact that it has been opened; another object being to provide an envelop of this kind which is sealed without the use of mucilage and hence cannot be opened by first being steamed; another object being to provide an improved clasp for fasteningand sealing the envelop and which is ens tirely covered by parts of the envelop when the latter is fastened so that the clasp is entirely concealed.
The invention consists in the features of construction, combination, and arrangement ofdevices, hereinafter fully described and claimed.

The blank A from which the envelop formed is out to .provide a front 1, a back 2, end flaps 3 and a sealingflap 4. The end flaps are provided with extensions 5 to reinforce the envelop and the back is secured to the end flaps and their mucilage as at 6. The sealing flap is formed with an inner fold 7 at its free edge and which is folded inwardly thereon, on the line 8 and an inner flap 9 is formed at the free edge of the inner folded thereon on the line 10. The inner shown in Figs. 3 1s then pressed against the backvtocause its lnner foldlto bear directly against the perspective view of a safety envelop constructed and arranged 1n acopened and about to be v extensions by a fold and which is fold and the inner the sealing flap.
To close the envelop, the inner fold is inserted between the front and the back as and at and the sealing flap flap form extensions of back, the back being hence arrangedbetween the inner flap and the inner fold.
p To secure and seal the envelop, I provide a clasp which comprises a pair of members 11, 12. Preferably, the members of the clasp are made of sheet metal but may be made of any suitable material within the scope of the invention. The clasp member 11, is secured on the inner side of the inner fold by means of points 13 with which said mem ber is provided, said points being pressed through and clenched on the inner fold, said member has also a headed stud 13 which projects through the inner fold and is adapted to be forced through the back and the inner flap.
The clasp member 12 is secured to the inner side of the inner flap by points 14: which are forced through andclenched on the inner flap and said member has an opening 15, through which the head of the stud projects, when the envelop is closed. The member 12 also has a sealing tongue 16 formed therewith and which is bent inwardly thereover and is also initially bent as at 17 andis provided at its free end with a notch 18. When the envelop is closed and the head of the stud of the member 11 is forced through the back and inner flap and projects through the opening 15 of the member 12, the sealing tongue is then strengthened. by pressure and hence its notched end is caused to engage the shank of thestud and under the head of the stud, thus securely'locking the two members of the clasp together and thereby effectually fastening and sealing the envelop. The parts of the clasp are concealed in the envelop, entirely hidden from view and hence cannot be detached from each other excepting by first slitting the envelop and thus betraying the fact. Any suitable number of the clasps may be used on the envelop according to.
the size of the latter and the desired strength thereof, the envelop here illustrated is shown provided with two of my fastening clasps.
From the-foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the advantages of construction and of the method of operation will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art to which the invention relates, and while I have described the principles of operation of the device together with the device which I now consider tov be the I desireto have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as are within the scope of the appended claim.

arranged respectively on the outer side of the back and between the back and the front when the envelop is closed, and a clasp to fasten the inner fold, back, and inner flap together and thereby seal the envelop, said clasp comprising a pair of members respectively secured to the inner fold and inner flap, one of said members having a headed stud and the other having an opening to receive the stud and being also provided with a sealing tongue bent thereover, having a notch in its outer end and being adapted when straightened to engage said notched end under the head of the stud;
