HENRY C. MOBURNEY, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
REFUSE-COLLECTING: BAG.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 29, 1917.
Application filed November 20, 1915. Serial No. 62,546.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY C. MCBURNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented certain. new and useful Improvements in Refuse-Colleenug flags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The primary object of this invention is to provide a novel type of bag, for collecting refuse, which bag can be suspended from a suitable suppm-t and have the month there of held. open so as to admit of the collected n'iatter being deposited therein.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bag fol-carrying out the above ob jects, and of such construction that the bag can be placed in a horizontal position on the ground, floor, or other surface, and have the mouth thereof so disposed that the collected refuse can be conveniently deposited within the bag.
Other objects will appear and be better understood from that embodiment of my invention of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming apart thereof in which Figure 1 is a vertical elevation of the bag, showing the same suspended from a verti cal support.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section taken through the bag when the same is placed in horizontal position.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of a wire frame employed to hold the mouth of the bag in opened position.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral 1 designates a bag, formed of fabric, and having an opened mouth 2, the edge of the mouth being turned inwardly and secured to the side walls of the bag, to provide a hem 3.
Associated with the mouth of the bag is a circular frame adapted to hold the mouth of the bag opened. within and extends around the hem 3 and is formed of a single length of wire bent in- This frame is located termediate its ends to provide a substantially l.shaped loop having the arms a and The strands of the wire are continued from the arms 5 of the L-shaped loop, and crossed at a point 6 and. continued therefrom and formed to provide a concentric ring 7, the opposite ends of the strands being ar 'anged .in overlapped relation, as shown at 8 in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The frame is so constructed that it can be adjusted to accommodate bags of different diameters.
When it is desired to have the bag in upright position, during the depositing of the collected material therein, the L-shaped loop is engaged over the vertical support 9 as shown in Fig. l of the drawing. When the loop is so engaged over the support 9, the weight of the bag 1 will cause the arm 4 thereof to bind against the support 9, and hold the bag against longitudinal movement on the support. When the bag 1 is placed in horizontal position, the arm 4 is forced downwardly into parallelism with the sur face upon which the bag rests, by one foot of the operator, resulting in the mouth of the bag being moved upwardly to the position shown in Fig. 2, so as to admit of the refuse being conveniently deposited within the bag.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is In combination with a bag havinga circular pocket at the mouth thereof, one wall of the pocket having an opening therein, of a frame formed of a single length of wire bent at a point intermediate its ends to provide an L-shaped looped portion, the ends of the wire being continued from the horizontal arm of the looped portion and intersected and extended through the opening in the wall of the pocket, the said ends of the wire being curved from theiripoint of intersection and extended around the pocket in the bag and having their terminals overlapped, for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HENRY G. ltloBURNEY. ll itnesses HERMAN R. JOHNSON, HAROLD B. SMITH.
