THEODORE M. MORGAN, OF MINNEALBOLIS, MINNESOTA.
BOTTLE-CARRIER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 29, 1917.
Application filed. August 23, 1916. Serial No. 116,505.
To all w ham it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE M. MORGAN,-
a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and :State of Minnesota, have invented certain may be suspended therefrom.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a device of this character which is simple, durable and inexpensive in construction, and which is thoroughly efficient and practical in use.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete carrier, dotted lines illustrating the position of the neck of a milk bottle therein.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view of the present device, showing the terminals separated before engagement with the bottle.
Referring to the drawings the numeral 5 designates a bottle neck embracing member, which is made from a single strand of resilient wire to provide an arm 6, the outer end of which is bent upon itself to provide a stop 7, for a purpose to be described. The portion continuing from the other end of the arm 6 is now bent to provide a bowed neck engaging portion 9, a single coil 10, and another bowed neck engaging portion 11 which is disposed opposite to the portion 9 and which terminates in an oifset loop 12. It is to be noted that the portion of the loop 12 adjacent to the bowed portion constitutes a substantial hook.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for This ofiset' finger engaging loop 12 is adapted to be sprung into and out of hooked engagement with the arms 6 and thus be locked in embracing relation to the neck of the milk jar or bottle.
A bail 13 is provided with the looped terminals 14 and 15 for pivotal engagement respectively with the arm 6 and with the coil loop 10, the loop terminal 1 1 being capable of having a slight sliding movement and be ing arranged adjacent the stop for preventing unnecessary movement of the hook portion of the offset loop 12 while the said loop terminal 1% is retained against accidental displacement by the stop.
By this means, the present device will properly support a bottle, so that the bail shaped loop may be gripped.
What I claim as new is A bottle carrier including a bottle neck engaging member formed from a single piece of resilient wire and embodying a coil, oppositely disposed bowed portions continuing from the coil, an arm extending from one bowed portion, a stop formed on the end of the arm, an oifset finger engaging loop formed 011 the terminal of the other bowed portion and having a portion thereof adjacent to the bowed portion shaped to serve as a hook for removable engagement with the arm for clamping the bowed portions about a bottle neck, a bail, and loops formed at the terminals of the bail one of which is pivoted to the coil while the other is pivotally and slidably engaged on the arm adjacent the stop for preventing unnecessary movement of the hook portion of the offset loop and retained against displacement by the stop.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
THEODORE M. MORGAN.
