Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed March 1, 1917. Serial No. 151,742.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP \VALsroN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Boise, in the county of Ada and State of Idaho, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Knockdown Crates; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in crates and consists of a simple and efiicient apparatus of this nature having various details of constructlon, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention.

Reference now being had to the details of th drawings by letter, A designates a rod, bent substantially in square shape and rounded corners and made preferably of metal of cylindrical outline. B is the bottom, made preferably of galvanized iron and has corners cut away as at G and the edges of the bottom are bent over the rod in the manner shown. Said bottom is provided with apertures D at intervals, andE 1s a rod bent at right angles at E and its ends turned to form hooks E which are adapted to be passed throughthe apertures D and engage underneath said rod A 1n the manner shown in the drawings. Rods, designated by letter F, have eyes F at their upper ends adapted to receive the horizontal portions ofthe rods E and their lower ends pass through apertures D intermediate the corners of the plate.
The four sides are made up of similar bars as shown and which may be covered by a suitable netting or other material. The top is designated by letter N, made preferably of a meshwork of wire, and O designate plates riveted to each corner of the top and each plate is provided with a curved arm L adapted to engage over the horizontally disposed portions of the rods forming the sides of the crate, as shown. Cotter pins, designated by letter T, are passed through apertures in the plates 0 and serve as means to hold the same securely in place. A suitable door, designated by letter S, is hinged in an opening in one side whereby access may be had to the crate.
J By the provision of a crate embodying the features of my invention, it will be noted that a simple and eflicient apparatus is provided which may be easily and quickly set up and knocked down when desired to be reduced to a compact form for storage or shipment.
WVhat I claim to be new is:
A knock-clown crate comprising a bottom of sheet metal with an iron frame about which the edges of the bottom are bent, said bottom being apertured, sides made up of rods with hooked ends engaging said apertures and the marginal edges of the frame, a top having plates secured thereto with curved arms adapted to engage over the upper edges of the sides, and cotter pins passed through apertures in said arms and adapted to hold the plates securely in place.
