To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ISAAC SHERMAN SLADE, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Francisco, in the county of San Francisco and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Condiment-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to condiment holders, and the primary object of the invention is the provision of an attachment for condiment holders of the usual construction, which attachment will prevent the clogging of the working openings-of the holders.

Another ObJGCt of this invention is the provision of a shaker top or attachment as 7 above specified which has associated therewith a closure for the egressing openin which will prevent to a materia extent t e ingress of moisture into the condiment holders and thereby condiment retained in the holders which impairs the egressing of the same from the condiment holder.

The shaker top 1 is constructed of a shell of sheet metal as is ordinary in the construction of devices of this character and it has its upper end or top recessed, and havin the 'top proper spaced or horizontal and provided with a plurality of radially disposed openings 3, which openings are provided for the egressing of the condiment from the condiment holder (not shown) to which the shaker top 1 is attached. The top 2 of the cover or shaker top '1 is connected to the sides of the shaker top 1 by inclined connections 4, which form beveled edges against which the beveled edge 5 of the cover or closure 6 rests. The beveled edge 5 of the cover or closure 6 extends entirely about the circumference of the cover and fits snugly within the recess formed by the indentation of the top 1, as is. clearly shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings. The cover or closure 6 has a plurality of depending lugs 7 formed thereupon, which lugs are spaced for insertion into the openings 3 formed in the to 2.

The top 2 of t e shaker top 1 has 8. rectangular tube 10 extending downwardly therein and disposed centrally within the shaker top 1. The tube 10 is supported within the shaker top 1 by transversely extending radiating bracing wires 11, which wires are secured to the sides of the shaker top land the tube 10 in any suitable manner.

The cover 2 has a stem 12 formed thereupon, and depending therefr which stem is slidably seated within the s eeve 10. The stem 12 is provided with a longitudi nally extending transversely disposed slot 13, which receives the cross pin 14, which cross pin is carried by the sleeve 10 and rides within the slot 13 for limiting the up ward movement of the cover 6 with r ect to independent movement of the shaker In the operation of the improved shaker top for condiment holders, as heretofore detherefrom, the cover 6 moves away from the moisture into the condiment holder will be 7 top 2 and permits the condiment to pass outwardly through the openings 3. Immediately upon the proper repositioning or straightening up of the condiment holder the cover 6 will move downwardly and the lugs? will be disposed within the openings 3, preventing the openings from becoming clogged by the condiment and also owing to the fact that the cover fits snugly and firmly within the recess formed by the indenting of theshaker top-1, the passage of ends, which communicate with the outersurface of the top 2 and permit of the passage ofthe condiment therefrom. This feature also facilitates the elimination of the clogging of the openings by the condiment.

In reducing the inventionto practice certain minor features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may necessitate alterations to which the patentee is entitled provided such alterations are comprehended within the scope of what is claimed.

What is claimed is The combination with a condiment holder, of a stopper therefor, said stopper including a cylindrical shell having a perforated top, which top is recessed, said recess having a plane bottom wall and upwardly and outwardly inclined side walls, a closure provided with a plane inner face and upwardly and outwardly inclined side walls, lugs secured to and depending from the under side of said plane inner face and having a length greater than the depth of said perforations in said top, and means adapted to permit said closure to move in a vertical plane into and out of said recess by the inverting of the condiment holder, said lugs adapted to clear said perforations of the contents of the condiment holder when the closure moves into said recess, said inclined edges of the closure having frictional engagement with the inclined side walls of the recess when in a closed position thus preventing the contents of the condiment holder from becoming wet or the entering of foreign matter therein.
