Description

L. S. KINNARD.
TOILET BOX.
APPLICATION FILED DEc. 16. 1915.
Patented May 1, 1917.
I 1v1/venia? wwl SCL ...20W WQ @MQ M LUELLA STILWELL KINNARD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TOILET-BOX.
Specification of Letters atent.
Patented May '31, 1917.
Application filed December 16, 1915. Serial No. 67,296.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LUnLLA STILWELL KINNARD, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Boxes, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a toilet box adapted particularly for holding face powder or rouge, and capable of being secured to the dress or clothing of the user where it will form anv article of adornment with the box itself in convenient position for use1 but so covered and concealed as not to lessen the ornamental appearance of the article.
The invention consists generally in the constructions and combinations hereinafter described, and particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of a toilet box embodying my invention Fig. 2 is a view illustrating the manner of wearing the box secured to the clothing of the wearer.
Fig. 8 is a perspective view partly broken away to show the interior construction.
In all of the drawings 2 represents the box or receptacle proper, which is preferably of cylindrical form having an open top and of suitable size to be worn upon the person when supported and arranged in the manner herein described.
The outer wall of the box is preferably surrounded by a covering 3 of suitable fabric, which may be drawn inward at the bottom and connected to or made integral with a downwardly extending flexible stem 7. The box is also provided with a cover I preferably telescoping within the wall of 'the box. The cover is preferably provided with a small loop or handle l0, which may be grasped when the cover is to be removed or inserted. The edge of the cover is preferably of flexible material adapted to form sufficient frictional contact with the wall-of the box to cause the cover to be retained in position. The under side ll of 'the cover 4t is preferably provided with a soft, woolly or fuzzy surface to which the face powder, rouge, or similar material, will adhere and which forms a convenient means of applying the powder or rouge to the face or other part of the flesh of the user.
Secured to the outer surface of the box are a series of flexible and preferably overlappingproj ections 5. These may be formed of ribbon or other suitable fabric or material and they are preferably grouped around the outer surface of the box substantially as shown in Fig. l, and are preferably shaped so as to` imitate the petals of a liower. They form a large flexible base for the box, which, when the box is to be worn by the user, comes against the clothing, and
bearing against. the person keeps the box in the desired position. Some of the flexible projections 6 may be shaped to imitate the leaves of a plant, as indicated in Ifigs. l and 2. The projections 6 increase the size and add to the firmness and stability of the base formed by the projections 5.
In the form shown in the drawings the box and the surrounding projections 5 are arranged and colored to imitate a rose and the top of the cover is preferably formed and colored to imitate the center of such flower. The projections 5 imitate the rose petals in form and color and the projections 6 are preferably colored and shaped to imitate the leaves of the rose plant.
I may also further add to the ornamental effect of the toilet box by tying a knot of ribbon 8 on the stem 7 and the depending parts 9 thereof may be made into pockets to contain a small mirror or other desired toilet article.
It will be understood that the form of the projections 5 and 6 may be changed and these parts may be made of any desired color or colors, so that the completed article may be made to resemble any desired flower, instead of a rose, such as a lily, a chrysanthemum, an orchid, a dahlia, a spray of clematis, or a bunch of any of these or other flowers.
If preferred the stem 7 may be omitted and in this instance the box with its surrounding projections forming the flexible base will serve as a toilet box to be supported upon a table or other article of furniture. In this instance, however, the cover of the box will imitate the center of a flower and the surrounding flexible projections constituting the base will be made to imitate the form and color of any desired flower or spray or bunch thereof, in the manner already described.
I may also make the box and its surrounding base of suitable size to be secured upon a slipper, preferably upon the instep portion thereof. lVhere the wearer has a box of this kind secured upon each slipper one may be used for face powder and the other for rouge. Other locations for the device will suggest themselves to the user.
I do not limit myself to the details of construction as the same may be varied in many particulars without departing from my in vention.
I claim as my invention:
1. A toilet article comprising, in combination, a box having an open top, a fabric covering the sides of the box and drawn inward at the bottom and having the box attached thereto, a cover for the box, and a series of iiexible projections extending outwardly from the walls of the box and shaped and colored to imitate the petals of a flower.
2. A toilet article comprising, in combina tion, a box having an open top, a cove-r for the box formed to fit within the box and -having a liexible edge to frictionally engage the inside of the wall of the box, and a series of flexible projections extending outwardly from the walls of the box and shaped and colored to imitate the petals of a flower.
43. A toilet article comprising, in combination, a box having an open top, a series of flexible projections extending outwardly from the walls of the box and shaped and colored to imitate the petals of a flower, and a cover forthe box formed to lit within the box and frictionally engage the inn-er surface of the wall, the under face of the cover being provided with a soft surface and the outer face made toimitate the center of the flower represented by the colored petals.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 13 dayof December 1915.
.LUELLA S'IILWELLl KINNARD.
