CONDUCTORS-CHEGK HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 1, 1917.
Application filed. March 27, 1916. Serial No. 86,836.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE A. PARK- nUns'r, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concli1ctoi"s-Q11eck Holders; and I do hereby declare are following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object to provide an extremely simple and highly eflicient ticket or check holder especially adapted for use as ticket holders, to hold conductors cheeks. Generally stated, the invention consists of the novel devices and combina tions of devices hereinafter described and defined in the claim.
The improved check holder, in its preferred form, is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation showing the improved check holder; and Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof, taken approximately on the irregular line 00 00 of Fig. 1.
These check holders, as is well known, are usually applied to the side of the car or to the casing between windows in position where they may be reached by the conductor from the aisle or space between the seats. The check holder comprises a fiat metallic face plate 1 and a spring metal clamping disk 2 connected to the said base plate, preferably by a heavy rivet 3 having a conical or rather ornamental head exposed at the axis of the disk. The said disk, in diametrical cross section, is stamped or bent on a compound curved line, and is formed with a fiat depressed axial portion, an outwardly bulged annular portion between the said flat portion and the periphery and with an outwardly curved endless marginal portion 2*. This endless marginal portion 2 is continuous, that is, is unbroken and not slit or severed in any way, and hence, constitutes a continuous annular spring clamp for holding the checks or tickets y pressed between the same and the adjacent surface of the face plate 1. The ticket or check-en- Gopies of this-patent may be obtained for gaging surface of the said clamping rim 2 being smooth and unbroken, the checks or tickets may be applied with equal facility to any portion thereof. For holding checks or tickets of the ordinary thickness, there should be normally, a slight space between the clamping rim 2 and faceplate. Different roads use checks or tickets that vary a great deal in thickness, and for this reason it is sometimes de .rable to provide means for varying the normal space between the clamping rim 2 and face plate. This may be done by placing a washer or shim a between the face plate and hub of the clamping disk 2. In some cases, however, it is desirable to dispense with the washer and set the clamping rim normally in light contact with the face plate.
The face plate will usually be secured to the woodwork of the car by screws 5 and, at its lower edge, it is advisably provided with a strong hook 6 upon which a coat, or the like, may be hung. Certain forms of ticket holders hitherto employed have been made a good deal like a hanger hook, and for that reason, were frequently used for such purpose, and when they are thus used, they are soon bent out of shape and either broken or rendered useless for holding checks or tickets. -The clamping disk with continuous or unbroken clamping rim cannot be used as a coat hanger and has no parts that can be bent out of shape when used for that purpose. Furthermore, the device described can be made at small cost, and is strong and durable. Its efficiency has been demonstrated in practice.
What I claim is:
A. check or ticket holder comprising a face plate, and a spring metal disk rigidly and permanently secured thereto at its axis, said disk having a continuous unbroken resilient clamping rim, the extreme outer edge of which is slightly turned outward to permit the checks or tickets to be inserted between the same and the said face plate, the said disk having an outwardly bulged annular portion between its axial and rim portions.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE A. PARKHURST.
