ETEE STATE PATENT @ll f itli THOMAS CHALMEBS DRUBY, OF DUBLIN, IRELAND.
REVOLVING BOOKCASE.
Application filed March 3, 1916.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS CI-IALMERS DRURY, a subject of His Majesty the King of England, residing at Dublin, in the county of Dublin, Ireland, Kingdom of England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Connected with Revolving Bookcases, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in or connected with revolving book cases. The invention consists of an arrangement of cases for books, standing well above the floor level and revolving independently of each other on a central rod of brass or other material or on pivots of the same. The entire book case is comprised in four or more shelves which may revolve in pairs or singly.
One very convenient way of carrying the present invention into effect is by securing on a central leg a circular steel plate fastened by screws on a wooden frame or table top. Upon this steel plate the lowest book case revolves freely, carried by either casters or steel domes and upon the upper surface of this lowest bookcase there is another circular steel plate and upon this the next book case revolves in like manner; and so in like manner the other shelves, or they may re-' volve in pairs. The cases for the books are square, and the shelves are of such dimensions in height as will suit various grades of books; each shelf is somewhat smaller than the one below it, so that the entire book case stands in a pyramidical form.
The invention is illustrated inthe accompanying drawings in which Figure l is a general outside elevation of the complete book case; and
Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 24L, 1917.
Serial No. 81,839.
The book case comprises a pedestal e, sup ported in the usual manner and having a vertical rod 9 extending therefrom, and further provided with a platform h, adapted to carry a metal plate f. A set of book shelves indicated at c and (Z, is adapted to engage the rod 9, by means of a central aperture and is provided with a plurality of antifriction rollers or casters 2', which travel upon the plate 7, permitting rotation of the shelves 0 and (Z, which may be removed from the rod 9 by lifting them off vertically.
A second metal plate f is placed upon the shelf 0, and removably engages the rod g, which also removably carries a second set of book shelves ab, provided with casters j, adapted to travel upon the plate f to permit rotation of the shelves a-b about the rod 9.
A removable cap K is placed upon the top of the rod 9.
What I claim is A revolving book case comprising a pedestal, a platform carried by said pedestal, a central rod of uniform diameter extending from said platform, a metal plate on said platform, a set of book shelves carried by said rod, the shelves having an alined opening to fit over the rod, casters on said shelves engaging said plate, a second plate carried by said shelves, a second set of shelves carried by said rod, and provided with an alined opening to fit over the rod, casters on said second set of shelves engaging said second plate, said sets of shelves being rotatable about said rod, and a cap on said rod to normally hold said shelves in position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
THOMAS CHALMERS DRURY.
