m P. WRIGHT, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOB TO JOHN FRANCIS HEHBNWAY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED STBIPPEB AND PBESBUBE BELEASE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 24, 1917.
Application filed December 2, 1918. Serial No. 131,639.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Rm P. WRIGHT, a citizen of the United States, residing at \Yashington, in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Imrovements in Combined Strippers and ressure-Releases, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in clothes wringers, the object being to provide a combined roller stripper and release whereby the pressure on the pressure rolls will be instantaneously released in case of a foreign object being drawn between the rolls when in operation.
Another object of my invention is to provide releasing mechanism in which a stripper board is employed for operating the means for holding the pressure inpredetermined iosition.
Another object of my invention is to provide a release in which the top bar is movably mounted within the side bars of the frame and held in predetermined position by a resilient member which is expanded by the upward movement of the stripper board.
Other and further objects and advantages of the invention will be hereinafter set forth and the novel features thereof defined by the ap )ended claims.
n the drawings,
Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section of a clothes wringer. showing the appli cation of my improved construction of combined stripper and release thereto.
Fig. 2 1s a section taken online %--2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a detail stri per.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section through a perspective view of the and stripper,; and
Fig. 5 is a detail perspective view of the keeper and the resilient retaining member.
Like numerals of reference refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawings.
In carrying out my invention I employ a frame 1 having slotted sidebars 2 in which are mounted superposed bearings carrying pressure roll shafts 3 and 4 which are prothe upper bearing being provided W1 vided with the usual pressure rolls 5 arid 6,- h a shaped slots 15, into which are adapted to extend substantially Tshaped ends 16 of a spring 17 mounted in guide members 18 carried by the top bar 13, as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2, said spring having a centrally disposed bowed portion 19. \Vhen the ends of the spring are in osition Within the slots of the plates 14 as s own in'Fig. 1, the top bar is held in redetermined position within the wringer rame in order to allow the pressure screws 11 to be adjusted so that the desired pressure on the pressure rolls can be obtained.
Mounted above the upper rolls 6 is a stripper board 20, the ends thereof extending slightly into the slots of the side barsof the frame, and are provided with shoulders 20" board with its'lower e ge adJacent the up per pressure roll. The stripper board'QO is provided with a centrally disposed bifurcated stem 21 which embraces the pressure bar 10 and the bowed ortion lfi of the spring 17 as shown'in 1 and The fur-cations of the bifurcated stem are pro vided with openings 22 adapted to receive a pin 23 disposed beneath the bowed portion 19 of the sprin 17 so that when the stri per 20 is move upwardly beyond the ordinary distance of travel caused by the passage of clothes between the pressure roll, the s ring will be elongated so as to move the shaped heads 16 out of the T-shaped slots 15 of the plates 14, which allows the top bar to move vertically within the wringer frame, so as to release the pressure on the ressure roll.
T e stripper 20 is normallyheld slightly abovethe up er pressure roll 6 and revents clothes th erethrough.
In the modifications shown in Fig. 4, I provide a wringer frame *Z Lhavihg the usual superposed pressure rolls and 26 in the upper roll of which is mounted a stripper 27, carrying a bolt 28, on which'is a justably mounted a trip member 29 which is locked in adjustable position by thumb nut 30, said trip member having a laterally projecting portion 31' extending under the bowed portion of the spring 32 carried by themovably mounted top bar 33, the spring being constructed substantially as shown in the preferred form so as to hold the top bar in predetermined position'within the wringer frame.
From the foregoing description it will be seen that I have provided a combined clothes stripper, and pressure release stripping member operates, the retaining means for the removably mounted top bar, so that the top bar is released when the stripper is moved vertically by the separation of the pressure rolls.
I claim:
