The lever is pivoted and supported upon a bearing, and a forked spring is secured between the escutcheon plates 'in such man-y ner as to act on the lever and hold it normally away from the bell push-button.

The invention is shown. in connection with a screen door 1, which, in the present instance, closes'against a casing 3, and a bell having a push-button or pin 4 is arranged on the casing just inside the doo-r. The attachment comprises a lever 5 having at each end a head, one of the heads 6 having thereupon the legend Push, and the other head 7 being plain and adapted to engage the button and press the same to actuate the bell.

The lever has a bearing 8 intermediate its ends, and the said lever is adapted to be arranged within a slot 9 in the door at the level of the bell, in such manner that the head 7 will engage the button when the lever is swung in the proper direction. This bearing is engaged by a supporting shaft 10 which is provided at one end with an yangalar pointed lug 11, and the shaft is adapted to be arranged on the inner face of the door beneath one of the escutcheon plates to be described later, with the pointed lug pushed into the material of the door and with the shaft extending transversely of the slot which is horizontal.

Two escutcheon plates are provided, the plate 12 being arranged on the inner face of the door, and the plate 13 on the outer face, and the two plates are slotted as shown at 14, to register with the slot 9 of the door. The escutcheon plates have openings for receiving nails or screws 15 to secure them in place.

The shaft 10v is held from disengagemen with the door by the escutcheon plate 12, and a spring is'provided for normally holding the lever in the full line position of Fig.

This spring 16 is a plate spring, having each end forked as indicated at 17 and 18 respectively, `and the said ends are pointed oblquely to the body of the spring to lie approximately parallel with each other. The fork 18 is inserted between the escutcheon plate 12 and the door with the arms of the fork on opposite sides of the holding nail for the escutcheon. The other fork 17 of the spring extends outwardly and the lever 5 engages between the arms of the said fork and the spring normally holds the lever in they position of Figs. 1 and 2.

When it is desired to ring the bell, the head G is-pushed to the right, as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 2, bringing the head 7 into contact with the push button and sounding the bell. Preferably the escutcheon plate 13 is provided with the legend Belh as indicated at 19. IVith this improvement, the bell arranged within the door is accessiblefor ringing with the door locked.

I claim The combination with a casing, a signal bell fixed thereon, and a swinging screen door having a transverse slot, of a push lever pivoted in said slot and adapted, when the door is closed against the casing, to project horizontally over the bell, and an an gular plate spring secured to the screen door and its free end bearing horizontally upon the inner end of the push lever and holding' it normally out of range of Contact with the bell, as shown and described.
