Description
W. A. KEYS.
NECKTIE.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 26, I916- 1,21'9,330. Patented Mar. 13, 1917,
WILLIAM A. KEYS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
NECKTIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 13, 1917.
Original application filed November 20, 1914, Serial No. 873,138. Divided and this application filed July 26,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I/VILLIAM A. Knrs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to neckties of the type provided with tabs for attaching the tie to the front collar-button of the wearer so as to prevent the tie from becoming displaced in use and to facilitate tying. In neckties of this class it is usual to provide a separate size tie for each size collar. It has been found that sometimes in the cutting of these ties, or when being laundered or finished, errors occur, or the tie shrinks or stretches, so that the space between the eX- treme points of the buttonholes in the tab may not correspond with the size of the collar being worn. It is to overcome these diiiiculties and to facilitate the attaching of the tabs to the front collar-button of the wearer that my invention is addressed.
In the drawings in which like letters represent like parts,
Figure 1 shows the inner face or underside of a tie embodying my invention; and
Fig. 2 is an enlarged View of a portion of the neckband with the paddle or tying end and the tab in cross-section.
In the drawings A A are the paddles or tying ends of the tie. Tab-ties are generally of the bow-tie form, although, of course, the invention is applicable to other forms of neckwear if desired. B is the connecting portion of the neckband and C C are the tabs provided with buttonholes D adapted to engage with the front collar-button of the wearer. E is a button-hole in the rear of the neckband adapted to engage with the rear collar-button.
In the form of my invention shown, I provide the tabs C integral with the inner face or underside of the material forming the tiethat is, the material of the underside or inner face from end to end of the tie is of one piece including the tabs C; C. The material of the inner face or underside of the tie is cut so as to form the tabs, and then folded, as shown in Fig. 2, to provide a pocket in which the face of the tab is located.
Serial No. 111,368.
tion is afforded so that after one tab has been secured in place, the other tab may easily be secured to the collarbutton by slightly pulling the same. The distance to which the tab may be stretched may be regulated by the length of the elastic fabric. It will readily be seen that a tie constructed in accordance with the foregoing, while providing movable tabs, will not be unsightly, the elastic webbing will not be visible when in use or when exposed for sale by the dealer, and if desired, the tabs may be folded and placed within the pocket, if the wearer desires to use the tie with a two-fold or highband collar, where the tabs are not necessary.
This application is a division of my application, Serial No. 873,138, filed November 20, 1914..
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. In a necktie provided with a tab, the material of a portion of one face of the tie being folded upon itself so as to form a pocket, a tab integral with said folded face material, a portion of said tab being located within said pocket so arranged that said tab will have a longitudinal movement inclependent of an intermediate portion of the tie.
2. In a necktie provided with tabs, the material of the entire inner face of the tie and tabs being in one piece folded to form tabs and folded to form pockets into which the base of said tabs is located, means for permitting longitudinal movement of said tabs and means for holding same in normal position.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.
WILLIAM A. KEYS.
