JOHN A. OPPEDAL, OF SCARVILLE, IOWA.
Y HOLDER FOR SIDO-FILLING PIPES.
Specification of Letters Patent. Fatented Mar, 13,1917,
Application filed February 21, 1916. Serial No. 79,740.
T 0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, JOHN A. OPPEDAL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Scarville, in the county of Winnebago, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Silo-Filling Pipes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention is directed to improvements in holders for silo filling pipes, and has for its object to so construct a device of this character that the same can be adjusted to hold the lower end of the lling pipe in different positions so that the-ensilage can be evenly distributed in the silo.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder constructed in such amanner that the discharge end of the filling pipe can be moved to the desired place and held in its adjusted position so that a person in the silo can evenly spread the ensilage.
With these and other objects in view, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formation, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional View through the silo, showing the device in use.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the support.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a similar view on line 4*-1 of Fig. 2.
The holder consists of sections 1 and 2, said sections being provided with longitudinal slots 3 and L1, respectively, said sections being arranged in overlapping relation and have their adjacent ends provided with clamping bolts 5, the bolt carried by the section 1 being engaged in the slot l of the section 2, while the-bolt carried by the section 2 is engaged in the slot 3`of the section 1, said bolts being operable to clamp the sections 1 and 2 in adjusted positions.
gage the interior surface'of the silol and are spread a sufcient distance apart to prevent :the holder from swinging.
A similar plate 9 is fixed to the free end of the section l and has connected thereto the arms 10, said arms having pivotally mounted therebetween the ring 11, said ring being adapted to receive the filling pipe 12 which leads from a conventional form of pneumatic conveyer (not shown).
In use the holder is placedin the silo with the legs 8 against the surface thereof, and the sections 1 and 2 adjusted so that the filling pipe will discharge at the desired point, while the ensilage is being discharged from the filling pipe, the same can be evenly spread by a person in the silo.
The bolts 5 ofthe adjacent sections are engaged in plates 12 which slidably engage the respective sections, and having side flanges 13 to prevent them from turning. To facilitate the adjusting` of the sections, the section 1 is provided with a handle 1li.
What is claimed is A support of the class described comprising a pair of sections,l means for adjusting the sections longitudinally, one of said sections having arms carried thereby, a ring pivotally lconnected between said arms, spaced legs having their upper ends engaged with the sides of the other section, a plate fixed transversely of said section and having flanges which engage the adjacent ends of the legs, means for securing the legs to the plate, said legs serving to directly engage a silo at oppositely disposed points, as and for the purpose set forth. f
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN A. OPPEDAL.
Witnesses:
C. S. Sumar, A. MnLvrN LARsoN.
