SPRING-CLOSING REOEP'IACLE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 13, 1917.
Application filed June 28, 1916.' Serial No. 106,689.
States, residing at East Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spring-Closing Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved cup or receptacle and the principal object of the invention is to provide an improved type of closure so constructed that the closure will be normally held in the elevated or closed position thus making the receptacle airtight and preventing evaporation of the gasolene, benzin or other liquids placed in the receptacle.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this closure that it will not interfere with easy access to the liquid in the receptacle.
Another object of the invention is to provide improved means for yieldably holding this closure in the raised or closed position, a flange being provided at the upper edge of the receptacle to serve as an abutment to be engaged by the closure plate or disk. This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure l is a side elevation of the improved cup or receptacle.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the improved receptacle in vertical section.
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the improved receptacle.
The receptacle lOa'nay be in the form of a cup and provided with handle 11 and will be provided with acollar 12 having an inwardly extending flange 13. This collar may be held upon the cup in any suitable manner either by being soldered or in any other manner. The bottom 14 of the recep tacle may be shaped as shown in Fig.1 or may be flat, it being obvious that the detail construction of the 'bottom and the specific manner in which the collar is held in place are minor points. This closure plate or disk 15 is positioned in the receptacle and Will be yieldably held in a raised position for engagement with the flange 13 of the collar by springs 16 each of which is mounted upon a rod 17 extending from the bottom of the receptacle .to the flange 13. When in use the liquid will be placed in the receptacle and the closure plate can be moved downwardly when it is desired to have access to the liquid. When the disk is moved downwardly, the liquid flows about the edges of the same, thus covering the closure disk and reaching the article to be saturated with the liquid. After the article. has been saturated, it will be removed from the receptacle and the springs will return the closure disk to the raised or closing position. This will prevent the liquid from evaporating and thus prevent waste and also prevent danger from-gasolene or liquid from exploding.
What is claimed is A device of the character described comprising a receptacle open at its upper end and provided with an inwardly extending flange, a closure disk for said receptacle positioned within the same and provided with openings positioned beneath the inwardly extending flange, rods positioned in said receptacle between the inwardly extendingflange and the bottom of the receptacle and extending through the openings of the closure disk.
to slidably mount the closure disk, and springs positioned about the rods between the closure disk and the bottom of the receptacle and yieldably holding the closure disk raised in engagement with the inwardly extending flange.
In testimony whereof we atfix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
RICHARD oQMYnns JOHN AL'KELL.
