J EBRY LA MO'II-IE, 0F GRA'YLIIQ'G, MICHIGAN.
FLAT-IRON HOLDER AND CLEANER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JERRY LA Mornn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grayling, in the county of Crawford and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flat-Iron Holders and Cleaners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to flat-iron holders and cleaners, and the improvement pertains more particularly to an improved construction of flat-iron cleaner, whereby the fiatiron may be easily and quickly waxed on the bottom, and the bottom and sides of the iron can be automatically wiped and cleaned, and a support for the cleaned iron is also provided as an integral part of the holder.
With these and certain other objects in view, which will appear later in the specification, my invention consists in the devices described and claimed and the equivalents thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a longitudinal section through the cleaning and holding device.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view.
Fig. 3 is a perspective detail of the device by which the sides of the iron are automatically wiped.
As is clearly shown in the drawings, the device consists in a base 1, preferably formed of a single piece of metal, and having a pocket 2 near one end, in which is received a block of wax 3 preferably pressed upward by a spring 4 and adapted to wax the face of the iron 5 when the iron is passed over it.
A second pocket 6 is provided in the base 1, the lower part of the pocket receiving a pair of guides 7 connected together by means of a tension spring 8. The guides 7 extend Specification of Letters Patent. Patgqgnted Mar, 13, 1917,
Application filed April 18, 1916. Serial No. 91,879.
upwardly at the sides of the base 1 and at their upper ends carry movable jaws 9 having their faces 10 lined with felt or similar material.
Across the .top of the pocket 6 is a pad 11,
. over which the face of the iron 5 is wiped after passing the block of wax 3.
The jaws 9 are, by reason of their being connected by the spring 8, free to move outwardly when the iron is pushed between them, and also to swing laterally, as indicated by the dotted lines in Fig. 2 to permit the iron to pass. Thus the face of the iron and its sides are wiped when the iron is pushed between the jaws, as indicated in Fig. 2.
By the means above described, I have produced a simple, inexpensive and efiicient device that enables the operator with one movement of the iron to wax it, wipe the face and sides of the iron and leave the iron supported in aposition convenient for use.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: s
. In a sad-iron holder, the combination with a base having a laterally extending pocket, of wiping means on said base, substantially L-shaped'guides extending up from the base, parts of said guides adapted to extend into said pocket, resilient means connecting said parts of said guides, jaws located on said base and affixed to the upper edge of said guides, wiping means on said jaws, the whole so arranged that the lateral movement of the jaws is governed solely by the resiliency of said resilient means.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
