Application filed November 7, 1914, Serial No. 870,845.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. CUTLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mount Vernon, in the county of Westchester and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Springs, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain improvements in springs, and an object of the invention is to provide novel and improved means whereby the tension of the spring may be lncreased 1n accordance with the increase of the load supported by the spring whereby a maximum of efficiency may be tained.
l urthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a spring. normally at its minimum of tension and having coacting therewith novel and improved means whereby the tension of the spring may be increased with convenience and facility in accordance with the requirements of practice.
The invention consists in the details of construetion and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved spring whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use,

The form of invention disclosed in Fig.
2 is substantially identical with that set forth in Fig. 1, except that thespring 3 is of a three-quarterelliptical type having the outer extremities 12 thereof disposed in parallelism, while lower section of the spring is disposed in substantial parallelism with the frame 1 Interposed between the extremities l2 and the extremity 14 and the adjacent portion the inner extremity 1 1. of the of the frame 1 are the sliding blocks or fulcrums 6" adapted to operate in a manner as has been setforth relative to the blocks or fulcrums 6. These blocks or fulcrums 6 are herein disclosed as operatively engaged with the reversely threaded portions 5 of the shaft at which is adapted to be rotated in any desired manner. As disclosed in Fig. 3, the spring 3? is also of a three-quarter elliptical type but has the outer extremity of its upper section disposed on a depending scroll 15, and coacting with the inner portion of such scroll 15 is the rocking or swinging fulcrum 16 pivotally supported, as at 17, at

What I claim is:
