Description

C. F. NELSON.-
WEIGHER A'ND SACKER,
APPLICAHON HLEVD JUNE 261916- 13173334. Patented Feb. 27,1917.
I ammo n CARL rnnnnrcx nnLsoN, or COUNCIL BLUFFS, IOWA.
, wnrcnnn Ann SACKER.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Feb. 27 1917,
Application filed June 26,1916. Serial No. 105,989.
To all whom it may concern: I
Be it known that I, CARL F. NELsoN, a citizen of the United States residing at Council Bluffs, in the county of Pottawattamie and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements .in ll eighers and Sackers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention is a weigher and sacker.
One object of this invention is to provide a. device such as a. weigher and sacker so that commodities in bulk may be easily and quickly weighed.
Another object is to provide a receptacle that may be readily attached to or detached from the hook of a spring balance or other measuring instrument.
A further object is to provide a receptacle having a scoop-like open end that is pivotally mounted so that the contents therein may be quickly and easily dumped or put into a bag or sack, after weighing.
A still further object is to provide a stand from which may be suspended a spring balance or other measuring instrument to which may be connected 'a pivotally mounted or carried receptacle.
One purpose of the invention is to provide a pivotally mounted receptacle having a scoop-like open end and adjacent this opening and upon one side of the receptacle,
positioning a hook or other projection tov engage with one portion of a sack which may be stretched over and cooperate with the open end of the receptacle so that one hand may be. employed for tilting,- while the other hand is holding the other side of they bag or sack.
Broadly stated, the invention comprises a stand having a horizontally extended arm to carry a spring balance or other measuring instrument, a pivotally mounted receptacle having a scoop-like open end suspended from the balance so that .the commodities may be quickly and readily stored .and dumped without the use of an additional funnel or additional handling and provide adjacent the open end of the receptacle a hook or projection to engage with one side of a sack or bag, while the other end is held by one hand across the open end when sacking or packing.
One practical form of the invention will be described and illustrated in the accomopening of this elbow there extends an arm 10. Adjacent the outer end 01 the arm 10 there may be positioned a swivel hook 11.
A spring balance 12 may be connected I with the swivel hook 11, as indicated in Fig.
1. 'lhisspring balance may be of any usual or customary form that it may be desired to use. In the type shown, this spring bal ance is provided at its lower end with an A bail 1-1 is provided which has a suitable loop 15 to connect it with the S-hook 13 of the spring balance 12. As shown this bail 1 1 is Ushaped and the vertical members of the U have their lower ends so formed that they will cooperate with the pivot members '16. These pivot members 16 are preferably so positioned that they will project from the sides of the receptacle to which they are securely attached.
The bail 11 is preferably provided with. loops or eyes 17 to engage with the pivot members 16 with as little friction as possible. These pivot members 16 are provided with av cylindrical bearing portion 1.8 which is of less diameter than the normal diameter of the pivot. The eyes 17 are adapted to engage with the bearing portion 18 of the pivots.
tilted. The pivot members 16 are preferably positioned upon the receptacle so that its center of gravity is relatively low in order that the receptacle will not tilt oi its own. accord.
Intermediate of the vert.. receptacle 19, there may he positioned a' strengthening hand 20, as shown. Adjacent the open end of therecepfiac e and upon one side of the scoop-end, there may he positioned hook or projection '21. This hook or n-ejection serves to hold a hag;- or sack in position when the SillllQlS stretched across the scoop enchot the receptacle. so that the otherend ot' the hag may he held by one hand of the operator. Adjacent the bottom Of the receptacle and upon the rear side thereet, a suitable handle 22 Ina} he positioned. This handle may he of any usual or customary form.
in practical operation. the commodity in. bulk or bulky commodities, sucl as potatoes eal heigh of and fruit which it is desired to n'eighor illun the receptacle in one operation. they have been u'eighed, a has; or sat-l; has one end caught on the 1)]10jt0tltfi1 and the scoopend ol the receptacle inserted'into the hat;
, l- L i or sarh. tllG ()lllQl' end being; hele h tllQ .n'ie: sure by weight. may he placed \r operators hand. its shown tllB wcigzgher and saclter is adapted to he used so that the .llgfijllll hand holds the hag or sael: adjacent the scoop-end oi? the receptacle, while the left hand is used to til" the re *eptacle by :means of the handle. its tie receptacle will rotate freely by meal 8 of its pivots coop erating; with the eyes, the receptacle may he readily and easily dumped. lhus with the device the motions are res "cted to thrs i -11 M which. will cause the greatest e'ficiency in handling the material and the "ct-ore tend to save time. 7
The several pats entering into the construction oil? this Weigher and saelier, may he formed of such material as is most suitahle and convenient to use so that inuin amount of strength and rigidity will:
