.L fldllijt ARTHUR EDVMiRD POI-ILMAN, OF WATERTO'WN, WISCONSIN.
COMBINATION FLOWER-POT AND. REFLECTOR.
Application filed June 26, 1916. Serial No. 105,988.
To aZZ whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ARTHUR E. POHLMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of \Vatertown, in the county of Jefferson and State of lVisconsin, have invented a new and Improved Combination Flower-Pot and clear, and exact description.
General objects of my invention are to provide a lamp with a reflector and globe so arranged as to result in an effective lighting of a room, and so combine a flower pot with the lamp as to improve the appearance of the latter; and to provide ample space for earth or water, or both, between the reflector and a shell member, or members.
More specific objects of the invention are to provide a structure of the indicated class of a durable character to give the structure a desirable form esthetically, and to provide a construction aflording ready access to the different parts for the renewal, repair, or cleaning.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the description proceeds.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification in which the figure is a vertical section of a. flower pot embodying my invention.
In constructing a practical embodiment of my invention, an outer shell 10 is provided, which preferably flares in an upward direction from the bottom. Within the shell 10 is areflector 11 in the form of an inner shell of inverted, truncated cone shape. a On the bottom of the'structure I provide supporting means for a source of light; preferably, a socket 22 is provided, which is of a character to receive an electric lamp 23, the numeral 24 indicating the conductor for the lamp.
The described arrangement gives considerable space within the shell 10 and outside of the reflector 11 for containing an ample quantity of earth, indicated by the letter A so that provision is made for plants afl'ording a proper display in a comparatively small structure. a
In order to provide for a continuously moistening of the earth A and regulate the supply of moisture thereto, an annular partition 28 is arranged in connection with the outer shell 10, thus forming between the same and the reflector an annular reservoir, adapted to contain water as indicated at 13*.
An inverted glass globe 4:6 is arranged to inclose the flower pot structure at the bottom and sides. It may be suspended from the chains 25 by the means illustrated in which lugs 47 are formed on a ring l8, which is of a size to form a rest for the bead 49 of the globe. Any suitable connection may be provided between the flower pot structure and the ring 48, there being shown snaphooks 50 rigid with the outer shell 10 and adapted to engage in slots 51 in the lugs 47 which slots also receive the bottom links of the hanger chains 25,
The reflector l1 has an open bottom and the socket 22 for the lamp 23 rests on a seat 52 which is carried by brackets 53, secured to the under side of the flower pot structure as at 541, the said seat being disposed below the bottom of the reflectorp The arrangement'is such that light from the lamp 23 will not only be reflected upwardly by the reflector 11, but will also illuminate the globe 46, which, in practice, will be translucent. The partition 28 is spaced from the reflector 11 by a flanged top ring 40 The water compartment and the earth compartment are closed at the bottom and on the bottom of the water compartment is a felt ring 31 adjacent to lateral water outlets 32 in the shell 28 so that moisture will slowly find its way to the earth compartment. llhe numeral 42 indicates a capped filling neck and 43 a vent in the ring 40 at the top of the water compartment.
Having thus described my invention I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A device of the character described, including an upwardly disposed reflector, an annular flower pot structure surrounding the reflector, and means to support a source of light approximately central of the re flector; together with a glass bowl extending around and beneath the flower pot structhe source of light in the reflector.
ARTHUR EDWARD POHLMAN.
