To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ROLLIANCE W. OLI- vnn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Eldorado, in the county of Preble and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hog-Oilers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention relates to improvements in hog oilers.

The object of the present invention is to improve the construction of hog oilers and to provide a simple, practical and inexpensive hog oiler of strong and durable construction adapted to enable hogs to obtain readily the desired amount of oil for destroying lice.

A further object of the invention is to provide a hog oiler of this character equipped with a cylinder adapted to be readily rotated by a hog and provided with means adapted to be saturated with oil from a tank or receptacle so that the oil will be smeared over the hog when the cylinder is rotated by the same.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claim hereto appended, it being understood that various changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.

In the drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of a hog oiler constructed in accordance with this invention, Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view of the same, Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view.

Like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts in the several figures of the drawing.

In the accompanying drawing in which is illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention, the hog oiler comprises in its construction a rectangular frame 1 preferably of oblong form and composed of side and end walls or pieces 2 and 3 and adapted to be placed upon a floor or platform but the hog oiler may be arranged in a field or any other place where hogs will have c0nvenient access to the same. The ends or end walls 3 are provided with bearing brackets 4 of approximately inverted V- shape provided at their tops or apexes with alined bearings 5 for the reception of a horizontal shaft 6 on which a rotary cylinder 7 is mounted for conveying oil from a tank or trough 8. The bearing brackets which are composed of inclined sides have extended lower terminals 9 adapted to be bolted to a floor, platform or other supporting surface for holding the hog oiler rigidly in position.

The trough 8 which is preferably constructed of sheet metal is substantially semicylindrical and it is secured at its upper edges within the oblong frame 1 as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawing. The ends 10 of the rod or shaft 6 are threaded for the reception of nuts 11 but any other suitable fastening means may of course be employed for securing the shaft in the bearings or openings of the brackets or supports 4. The rotary cylinder 7 preferably consists of a sheet metal body 12 supported at its center and ends by wheels or heads 13 and provided with an exterior covering 14: of fabric, preferably canvas but any other heavy absorbent material may of course be used. The exterior covering of fabric is adapted to absorb the oil and it is carried upwardly in a saturated condition so that the desired quantity of oil is smeared over the surface of the body of the hog rubbing against it. Each wheel preferably consists of a hub portion 15, a rim 16 and spokes 17, but the construction of the wheels or heads may of course be varied. It is preferable however, to employ a wheel or head of the form shown as it provides a light, strong and durable construction.

It will be apparent that the hog oiler is simple, and comparatively inexpensive in construction that it is adapted to be easily manufactured and that the major portion of the cylinder is located exteriorly of the trough in convenient position for enabling hogs to smear the oil over their entire body.

What is claimed is A. hog oiler of the class described including an oblong frame composed of vertical side and end walls, a trough secured at its upper edges within the frame, approximately inverted V-shaped bearing brackets secured to the frame at the inner faces of the ends thereof, between the same and the ends of the trough, and projecting above the trough and the frame and having terminal laterally extending attaching portions projecting beyond the frame, a .shaft supported by the bearing brackets and a cylinder mounted for rotary movement on the shaft and extending into the trough.
