NELS SEASHOBE, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
CURTAIN-POLE LIFTER.
Specification of Letters Eatent.
Patented Jan. 23, 1917.
Application filed April 20, 1916. Serial No. 92,333.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NELS SnAsHoRE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain-Pole Lifters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in curtain pole lifters and one object is to produce a device of this class whereby a curtain pole may be readily lifted into or out of the brackets at the upper end of a window frame.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists in the combination and arrangement ofparts to be hereinafter fully described in this specification, pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings which form a part of said specification and in which- Figure 1 is a rear view of my improved device in use. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device. Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views.
The reference numeral 1 denotes a pole having at its upper end a metal head 2 t which a stationary jaw 3 is secured that is formed with a semi-circular termination 4, said jaw 3, preferably, being disposed in a plane at right angles to the head 2. Parallel upwardly extending ears 5, 5 formed integral with the head 2 are connected by a bolt 6 and a shank 7 pivotally mounted upon said bolt 6 terminates at one end in the movable jaw 8 having a semi-circular termination 9 curved in the opposite direction to the jaw-termination 4; the opposite end of the said shank 7 may be curved as at 10 and connected by a cord 11, which passes through screw eyes 12 secured to the pole 1, to a cylindrical sleeve or handle 13 slidably arranged upon the pole l.
A spring 14 is coiled about the bolt 6 as at 15, the ends of said spring being secured in the ears 5, 5 and the central portion of the spring between the portions 15 extending away from the bolt 6 in approximately a U-shape which portion is disposed against the under surface of the shank 7 to yieldingly retain the same in raised position as shown, full lines, in Fig. 3 thus keeping the jaw portion 9 in engagement with the jaw portion 4:.
To separate the jaws 4c, 9 the handle 13 is pulled downward over the pole 1 and the open jaws are then moved into engagement with the curtain pole which may be lifted and transported as desired thereby.
lVhat is claimed is 1. In a curtain pole lifter, a pole, a head carried by said pole and formed with ears disposed above said pole, a stationary jaw formed integral with said head, a bolt connecting said ears, a shank pivotally arranged upon said bolt, a jaw formed integral with said shank and adapted for cooperation with the said stationary jaw, a spring wound upon said bolt and connecting said ears and said shank whereby said jaws may be yieldingly retained in closed relation and manually operable means connecting said shank for moving the same upon its pivot to open said jaws.
2. In a curtain pole lifter, a pole, a head carried by said pole and formed with ears disposed above said pole, a stationary jaw formed integral with said head, a bolt connecting said ears, a shank pivotally arranged upon said bolt, a jaw formed integral with said shank and adapted for cooperation. with said stationary jaw, a spring wound upon said bolt and connecting said ears and shank whereby said jaws may be yieldingly retained in closed relation, a sleeve slidably arranged upon said pole and flexible connection between said shank and the said sleeve whereby the former member may be moved to open said jaws.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
NELS SEASHORE. Witnesses:
CARL SANDAHL, E. I-Iuoo SnAsHonn.
