RECEPTCLE.
Application filed August 4, 1915.
To all whom t may concern: e
Be it known that I, JULIA HILL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Valley Junction, in the county of Polk and State of Iowa, have invented new and useful Improvements in Receptacles, of which the following is a specification.
rlhe present invention relates to a receptacle for measuringdevices, such as a spring wound tape measure, the object being tol provide means whereby the tape measure may be conveniently arranged upon the wrist of the user, so that the saine may be readily accessible for use and also whereby the hand and wrist of the user may be free and unencumbered for performing other duties.
Another object of the invention is to provide a receptacle which is attached to a band or bracelet so that the same may be easily and quickly attached to the wrist or removed therefrom and so provide an ornamental as well as a highly useful article.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a receptacle of cylindrical formation, having a hinged cap or cover and a spring catch for securing the `cover in closed position upon the receptacle, the cover being provided with a central opening through which may be passed the finger of the operator for touching the push member of an ordinary spring wound tape which is arranged within the casing, the said casing having a side slot through which the tape may be drawn, the ring of the tape contacting with the casing at the opposite sides of the slot to prevent the same entering the casing and the said casing being pivotally secured to a band or bracelet, whereby the same may be arranged upon the wrist of the operator and the casing sustained upon the outer portion of the wrist.
Other objects and advantages will appear as the nature of the invention is more fully understood, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which there is illustrated a simple and approved reduction of the improvementfto practice.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of the improvement, Fig. 2 is a central longitudinal sectional view through the same, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal section through the casing with the tape measure arranged therein. Fig. 4 is a. perspective view of the band or strap.

casing. The top 2 is in the form of a flat l disk having a central opening 6, the purpose of which will presently appear and the side of the cylindrical casing is provided with a slot or opening 7.
The numeral 8 designates a pivot pin which passes centrally through the bottom of the casing, and which loosely secures to the casingl a band orstrap4 9 of equal width throughout its length. The band or strap which is formed from flexible material, such as leather, or the like, has formed therein adjacent one end a slot 10 through which may be passed to connect the ends of the band a locking rib on a spring catch mem- -ber 11 secured to an enlargement 12 formed integral with the opposite end of the band and adapted to underlie the slotted end of the band and to have bear thereon the locking rib so that the enlargement serves as a protective flap, said spring catch having extending beyond the locking rib an operating lip adapted to overhang the slot 10 when the ends of the band are connected by the .spring catch as shown in Fig. 1 in the drawing.
The receptacle is adapted to receive a drum 13, in which is arranged a spring wound tape measure 14. rlfhe construction and arrangement of the drum 13 and the tape line 14C does not form a part of this invention, but it is deemed necessary to state that the spring of the drum is actuated by a push button 15 to permit of the eX- pansion of the spring, the spring being contracted by drawing the tape outward of the casing. The end of the tape passes through the slot or opening 7 in the casing and the said end is provided with a ring member 16 which is of a size to contact with the casing to prevent the same entering the casing. By such an arrangement it will be noted that the tape is always retained in a convenient position upon the wrist of a dressmaker,
tailor or other persons Who have constant use for such a measure, and being preferably arranged upon the left wrist and to the outer side of the operator, the ring may be grasped between the forefinger and thumb of the right hand of the operator and readily drawn for use, and when the tape is no longer required as a measuring device, one of the iingers of the operator is inserted through the opening 6 into contact with the member 15 of the tape casing which permits of the actuation of the spring contained therein and winds the tape upon its post or drum.V It will be further noted that the pivotal arrangement of the casing 1 of my device upon the band or strap 9 permits of the said casing being rotated to any desired angle in a rotary direction, while the operator may simply turn or incline the wrist upon which the device is attached to permit of the tape being drawn outwardly in a proper' angular direction.
From the above description, the simplicity of the device as Well as the advantages thereof will, it is thought, be perfectly apparent to thosel skilled in the art to which such invention appertains without further detailed description.
flexible strip for connection with a recep- 1 tacle and having a slot adjacent one end thereof, a protective iiap formed integral with the opposite end of said strip to underlie the slotted portion thereof, a spring latch on said flap having a locking rib to extend through said slot and bear on said flap, and an operating lip on said latch in vadvance of said rib extending beyond said flap to overhang said slot. y
In testimony whereof I aix my slgnature in presence of two witnesses.
