MUSIC-LEAF TURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 9, 1917.
Application filed May 10, 1915. Serial No. 27,129.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LYNroRD O. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Capay, in the county of Yolo, State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Leaf Turners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in music leaf turners.
One object of the invention is to provide a simple device of this character which can be readily applied to the music ledge of a piano or to a music stand.
Another object is to provide simple and novel means for turning the music leaf and releasable means for holding the leaf turning means.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a front elevation of a music leaf turner made in accordance with my invention, Fig. 2 is a side elevation, Fig. 3 is a vertical section on the line 33 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail perspective view of the detent.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents a suitable box which is provided with a clamp 11 having set screws 11 for attaching the box to the music shelf or ledge of a piano, organ, music stand or the like. Extending vertically through the box is a post 12, the lower portion of which is provided with a laterally extending pin 13 which projects through the slot 14 formed in the front of the box. Slidably mounted on one end of the box is a beveled ended bolt 15, the other end of which is pivotally connected to one arm of a bell crank lever 16. Pivotally connected to the end of the other arm of the bell crank is a stem 17 which carries on its other end a button 18. A coil spring 19 is wound around the post 12 below the arm 13 and has one of its ends secured to the arm and the other end to a box. This spring is so wound that when the arm 13 is swung to the right the spring will be under tension with a tendency to move the arm to the other side of the box. A coil spring 20 is mounted on the stem 17 between the crank arm, and the button. When the arm 13 is swung over to the right it engages the beveled end of the bolt 15 pushing the same back until the arm is passed and then snapping outward to hold the arm against movement. Then upon pressing on the button 18 the bolt will be withdrawn and release the arm 13 permitting the same to be thrown around to the left with the post 12 under the influence of the spring 19. In the upper end of the post 12 is the laterally extending arm 21 carrying on its outer end leaf engaging means 22 for engagement with the music sheet to be turned. It will also be seen that when the arm 13 is turned to the right by taking hold of said arm with the fingers and engaged with the detent that the arm 21 will turn with the post in such position that the leaf to be turned can be engaged with the clips, and that upon release of the arm 13 the arm 21 will be thrown to the left carrying the music leaf with it.
What is claimed is:
A music leaf turner comprising a box having means for attaching the same to a support, the front of the box having a transverse slot formed therein, a vertically slidable bolt mounted within the box, on one end thereof, and projecting across one end of the slot, an operating stem slidably extending through the front of the box, a bell crank lever pivoted at its angle to said end of the box and having its arms connected respectively to the bolt and stem, a vertical post mounted in the box and carrying leaf engaging means on its upper end, a spring mounted on the post within the box, and, a laterally extending arm carried by the post and extending through the slot, said arm being arranged to be moved along the slot into engagement with the said bolt against the action of the spring, the spring having one end connected to the arm and the other end connected to the box.
In testimony whereof, I affix my signature, in the presence of two witnesses.
LYN FORD OSCAR GREEN.
