BGHZES'EZC WATER HEiiTElh specification of Letters latcst.
li zmcnlssl Jon, 9, mm
ci son of the Uniied Slates" i'ssid ng St. l il, in the county of and State of lvlinncsots, have invented now and useful improvements in Domestic F/"s JL-Er-l-leinbsrs oi which the following is o. specification.
11s invsntio' is on improved boiler for healing water for ilomcstic uss and also for other analogous uses, tho object of the insession hc g to provide i' crowed. hoilss of this cla which u'tilizss grcstsi' pro pozsion of uniss than hczctofqro in the heating of showatsr, woich minimizes the loss. of host radiation, which utilizes hos-:3 unics passing from the fins hols 3-301 maintaining the host in the hot Water feed pips, wool which is mls-plsd to be readily osscmblscl and. disss'sniblcd bo facilibs'l s instollsfiion and Yogi-oil's.
The invention consists in. construction, combination arrangement of devices hercinaftsi' olsscribsol and clsimccl.
In the accompanying ch'cwings:-ligurs l is a vertical conical ssctioi'iol View of a do .mcstic wzicei heater consorcciscl occorclonce. with my invention. 2 is a detail sectional View, on a larger scale, of tho lower porion of the hcatsi" and its connections, Fig. is a transverse sectional View on ills plans inclicslicsl by the line a -o of Fig. L Fig. 4: is so similar View on the plans indicstccl by line 727) of fl.
In the cmbooliment of my invention ll provide an upright central tank 1 she outs:
of tho tank is concavo-convcx, cross sectionolly, w1th the convex suls uppermost and 1s rivot cd to the wall 2. The bottom 4 is also concsvo-convsx, cross ssctionally, with the concave sicls lowermost Tho botsom is orrangcal in the lower cnkl of the 02min is riveted to the lows;- portion of the wall as at :5 and has a central oysningz 5 which opens into ilhfi lower and of :1 screw sha'pccl firs box 7 whereby the fire box is formed with spiral convolutions S which rcscmblgg, screw threads. A vertical tubular flue 9 is in s nged in the center of the tank, its upper end extending through and slightly above an opening in the top 3 and its lower and being suiiably connected 70 the upper end of the fire box.
A boiler 10 which is also screw-shaped and is of sonicwhatlcss diameter than the five lie is known om I OLE S. JonxsoN,
box is arranged in theqlsttcr and spaced from the cor ligated wall thereof, the boiler being also providsd with corrugations 11 \Jhich conslil-uso its screw confioluli'ons on corrrgciions of the boiler by reason of spaced relation is the spiral corrugoiions of the iiic box fox-lining a iLOI'lJUOUS annular psssags 1.2 bcswcen the boiler and the fire, box, ths spiral corrugations of the lire box and of lbs boiler forming baflies in the opposing walls thsrsof as will he understood.
hos Weiss]? pipe 13 posses upwardly 'ihrough fihc conic-i: of the flue Q and has its lower and secured to ihs'iop hoilom The said hos water pipe is hsi s shown as providsd wish an elbow 14;, sh vs the 'llsnls sncl with, s horizontal branch 15 connccicd to said slhow and. held by a bisckct 16, By first clisconnecfiing the pipe 13 fsom the elbow the pipe the boiler can be rsmoved from the tank, it being ncosssm'y to also turn. the boilsr to afford screw like connccion 11ml p'crn'iis Lhe withdrawal i. boiler. from the lower cnel of the fire box.
A. cold water pipe I? is connects cl to a suitable water sysbs. which leads down into slic tank through the top or cover 3 and terminates at its lower cml about eighteen inches, in brackets, nbovc the firs box. Tho boiler is supplied. with water from the tool; by a pips 18 which lezuls from she bottom of tho sunk to the bottom of the boiler and is om-c shown as provided wifh on elbow 1;}, :2 "l" 20 and o isucct 2L, the, lattor enabling Water to be drawn or drained from the drunk when fissisecl.
A. suitable gas, gasolcns or kerosene burner 22 is employed which is arranged below the boiler and the fuel supply pipe of which is indicated at 2f This burner may be of any suitablc'type within the scope of my invention,
I also provide a worm baillcfii which is m'rzlngecl in the flue 9 and around the hot water pipe 1.3. This losfi'lc may also be with drawn from the tube 9 whcn desired. A supply inc 52 1 connccfis the upper end of the fine tube 9 with s chimney 01' other fine for carrying off the heated products of combusfiion.
Owing to the location of the fire box ancl the boiler Within the lowerportion of the body of the water tank, the heated air from the burner in passing spirally around the shapml boiler and between the sem s the water therein but also serves to heat the water in the lower portion of the tuirkto some extent so that the water is partially heated hefore it passes from the tank to the boiler. Moreover such arrangement of the fire box and the boiler within the tank utilizes the heat that would be radiated from the lire box wall it the latter were exposed and moreover this construction is highly advantageous in that it does not en'ectthe heating of the tank and hence the latter does not radiate heat, which is highly ob jcctionahle in kitchens and other like places, especially in warm weather. T he 'baflle ivin'ni'causes the escaping heated air and products of combustion to pass up spirally in the pipe 9 and around the pipe l3 thereby maintaining the heat of the latter.
Having thus described my invention 1 claim In a: device of the kind described, in con1- bination an upright central tank, a concaveconvex bottom in said tank having its concave side lowermost, a screw shaped fire box secured to the bottom and having its convolutions of uniform (fliaineter, said the be terminating, at its upper end, in a tubular portion, a vertical tubular flue projecting into said tubular portion, a screw shaped boiler having its convoiutions of uniform diameter disposed ccmzentrically iii said fire box, a nipple formed at the upper end of
