` Y' ATTORNEY JAMES-PHILBIN, OF SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
PORTABLE SLEEPING-CRIB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan, 2, 1917.
Application filed May 17, 1916. Serial No. 98,219.
'o all whom 'it may cof/cern Be it known that 1, Jaime PHLLBIN, citizen of the United State-s, residing at Seattle, inthe county of King and State of `Wash ington, have inventeda certain new and useful improvement in Portable Sleeping- Cribs, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in portable sleeping cribs for babies, and the object of my invention vis to provide a sleeping crib which shall be detachably associated with a supporting frame that is provided with wheels and rollers whereby said crib may be trundled from one place to another, as may be desired, or be removed from said supporting frame to dispose it on another support, as on a bed or on the floor of a room.
A further object of my invention is to provide a portable sleeping crib which shall be removably associated with a supporting frame that is so pivotally supported that said frame may be actuated to oscillate to impart a rocking motion to said sleeping crib.
I accomplish these objects by devices illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein- Figure 1 is a plan view of a crib supporting frame, the crib thereof being remove therefrom; and Fig. 2 is a view in sideelevation of the same with its crib disposed thereon.
Referring to the drawings, throughout which like reference numerals indicate like parts, 3 designates an axle upon whose opposite end portions are rotatably mounted spoked wheels 4; and clamped to said axle 3 are two studs 5 which are disposed each adjacent to one of the oppositely disposed wheels 4 to extend upwardly therefrom to support an oval platform 6 which is rigidly secured to the top ends of said studs 5.
To the under side of each of the opposite end portions of the platform 6 is rigidly attached a leg, as legs 7, which legs 7 extend downwardly to a point that is spaced from a line 8 which represents a flat surface upon which the wheels 4 may be resting, whereby the oval platform 6 may be oscillated on the axle 3 to impart a rocking motion to said platform 6. Rotatably secured to the lower end of each of the legs 7 is a pair of rollers, as rollers 9, which serve to engage with the surface of the floor or the ground to limit the extent of any oscillating movement of the platform 6.
T he studs 5 and the legs 7 are connected together by a frame l0 of diamond-like form, as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1, which is disposed in a plane above the axle 3 and which serves as a brace rigidly to unite said studs 5 and said legs 7.
integral with the upper end portion of each of the legs 7 is an arm, as arms 11, which extend obliquely upward and outwardly from the adjacent end of the platform 6, and secured to the outer side of each of the oppositely disposed studs 5 is another similar arm, as arms, 12, which extend obliquely upward and outwardly from the adjacent side edge of the platform 6.
Removably disposed on the platform 6 is a babys sleeping crib 13, comprising a basket of an oval form corresponding with the shape of the top surface of the oval platform 6, the outer sides of said crib 13 engaging with the arms 11 and 12 whereby said crib 13 is confined securely in its position with respect to sidewise and endwise movements.
In utilizing the portable sleeping criby herein illustrated and described, it yis manifest that an infant may be disposed therein and trundled about the ioor of a room or wheeled over the surface of a lawn or sidewalk, or be rocked to sleep by imparting an oscillating movement to the frame and the platform upon which the sleeping crib is disposed, and,'1f desired, the crib 13 may be lifted to dispose it upon a bed or upon the floor of a room.
If it be desired the legs 7 may be shortened to permit a greater amplitude of oscillation in the operation of imparting a rocking motion to the crib 13, and, also, if preferred, the rollers 9 may be mounted on brackets disposed to be vertically movable in suitable guides associated with legs 7, and helical springs or other resilient means may be disposed to exert their force normally to maintain said rollers 9 in their lowermost positions thus to adapt them to make yielding engagement with the surface, upon which the structure rests, in response to oscillation of the platform 6.
Obviously, the crib 13 may comprise a receptacle which is other than of basket form and changes may be made in the forms, di-
mensions and arrangement of parts of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof.
What I claim is:
A portable sleeping crib of the class described, embodying an axle, two wheels rotatably mounted each on a different end portion of said axle; two studs clamped to said axle each adjacent to a different one of said wheels and disposed to extend upwardly from said axle; a platform rigidly secured to the top ends of said studs; two legs rigidly attached each to the underside of a different one of the opposite end portions of said platform to extend downwardly therefrom; a pair of rollers yieldp ingly attached to the bottom end of each of Gopies'of this patent may be obtained for ve cents each, by addressing the said legs; an integral arm disposed to extend obliquely upward from the upper end of each of said legs at a point adjacent to the edge of said platform; an arm secured to the outer side of each of said studs and disposed to extend obliquely upward to a plane higher than said platform; and a sleeping crib removably disposed 0n said platform in a position to be confined with respect to horizontal movements by said amns In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe my name this 11th day of May A. D., 1916.
