One of the objects of this invention is to provide improved means for preventing a person from unlocking any of the doors ex-` cept the door at the Hoor to which the car is destined, and for preventing the lock of the last mentioned door from being operated until the car has stop ed moving. Y
Another object of the invention is to provideimproved means for disabling the motor-controlling mechanism when any one of the doors is` opened, in order to prevent the car from being started while a door is open. In the .accompanying drawings, Figure 1 isadiagrum illustrating one embodiment of my invention. Fig. 2 is a detail view of the `door-,locking means. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken approximately in the plane of dotted -line 3 3 of Fig. 2.

Upon the member 13 are formed one or more locking teeth 17 arranged to be engaged by a dog 18 pivoted at 19 inthe lock casing 10., Ri d with the dog 18 is an arm 20 which vis yie dingly connected to the stem 21 of an armature 22, said armature being arranged to be lifted by an electromagnet 23.v One terminal of the electromagnet 23 is'connected 'to a wire 24 which is connected to a source of constant supply of electric current. The other terminal of the electromagnet 23 is connected by means of a. wire 25` to the pole 26of a switch 27 in the lock casing 10. The other pole 26 of the switch 27 is connected by means of a wire 28 to a suitable circuit-closer associated with the door-stop device. To distinguish between the wires 28 at the different lioors, said wires are indicated in the diagram as 28, 28", '28". VA circuit may be closed across the contacts 26 and 26a by ay contact 29 which is secured to .a plunger 30. A s ring 31 normall holds the contact 29 out o? engagement wi h the contucts26 and 26". To tbelower end of the hand lever 4 is pivoted a push in 32 which entends through a guide 33. he push pin 32 is arranged to bear against the plunger '30. When the upper end of the hand lever 4 is swung 'toward the right (Fig. 2), the push pin 32 will pressed against the plunger'lO, whereby the contact 29 willbe moved into engagement with` the contacts 26 and 26. If the car be standin still at the floor at which the given hand Aver 4 is located, a circuit will be closed (by the circuitcloser associated with th:` Hoor-stop device) through the electromagnet 23 and the armasiti on to ture 22 will be raised, thereby withdrawing the dog 18'from engagement with the mein,- ber 13. Continued pressure on the handle 5 (toward theright, Fig. '2) will cause the latch 8 to swing upwardly, the member 13 being raised by the spring 15. As soon` as the latch 8 isc e n tinued pressure on the handle 5 will cause the door to open. suitable manner to a wire 38 which extendsto one pole of a switch communicates with the source of constant supply of electric current. The switch 39 is normali closed. When the controller 2 -is actuate to close the motor circuit, said controller opens the switch 39. This may be accomplished in any suitable manner; herein is diagrammatically shown a slidable mem ber 39 which is engaged by the controller switch member 2* and moved to swing the movable element of the switch 39 away from the stationary elements of said switch.l
The wiresl 23, 28 and 23" extend to stationary contacts 28', 28 and 28'", respectively. These contacts are arranged in pobe engaged by the movable contact 37. "hen the car is level with Vthe first floor, `,the con-tact 37 is in enga ment with Vthe contact 2S. Whenthe car is level with the second floor, thecontacts 37 and 28" are in engagement, and when the car is at the third Hoor the contacts 37 and 28"' are in engagement.

Since the switch 39 is open when the motor is running, and since the contact 37 does not engage the proper contact except when the car is at the given licor, it will be seen that the car must be standin stili at the given Hoor before the door can )e unlocked. In the diagram the car is presumed to be standing at the third floor.
In the operation of closing the door,A the beveled surface 8 of the latch 8 strikes the a'r of the portion 11 the conpiece of e portion 11 and is said ortion 11, enterin the member r13. As soon as the hook o the latch has passed the portion 11 the spring 12 pulls the hook down behind the portion 11, and also pulls the member 13 down into normalposition. The springl-Z is stronger than the spring 15.

I claim as my invention: 1. An elevator system having, in combination, a door-lookin member, a handle for operatin said mem er a lock for said member, an e ectromagnet for operating the lock. a circuit for the electromagnetya switch in saidcircuit `arranged to be closed by said handle, a controller, a switch in said circuit arranged to be opened 4by the controller, a hoisting drum, and a circuit-closer operated by the drum and included in said circuit.
