To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY E. REEsE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gypsum, in the county of Saline and State of Kansas, have invented new and useful Improvements in Motor-Cycle Supports, of
4 which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain novel and useful lmprovements 1n supportlng devlces 4' for motorcycles and analogous vehicles and has particular application to a telescopic support.
I am aware of the fact that it has hitherto been proposed to provide telescopic supports for bicycles, such supports embracing a stationary outer section having one end secured to the frame of the vehicle, and a slidable inner section telescopically arranged within the outer section and movable into i and out of such outer section by way of the remaining end thereof, the inner section being held within the outer section by means of a spring and in outer or extended position by means of a catch carried by the outer section; but, so far as I am aware,
these devices are more or less cumbersome in structure and the parts are so arranged and correlated as to be inaccessible.
In carrying out my invention, I propose to provide a device of the class described wherein the inner and outer sections and the spring for holding such inner section in the outer section will be so arranged relatively to one another that access may be quickly and conveniently had to the device whenever it is desired to repair or replace mutilated or broken parts.
My invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter set forth in and falling within the scope of the claim.
In the accompanying drawing; Figure 1 is a fragmentary side elevation of a motorcycle equipped with a support constructed 1n accordance with the present invention.

Referring now to the drawing in detail,

section 1 adjacent to the lower end thereof is'a dog 4 working through an opening 5 in the outer section and cooperating with the teeth 3 and adapted to hold the inne section 2 in distended position.
Arranged transversely of the outer section 1 adjacent to the upper end thereof is av rod 6 havingthe ends thereof secured to the outer section at diametrically opposite points, while arranged across the inner section 2 in proximity to the lower extremity thereof is a cross rod 7 having the ends thereof secured to the inner section at diametrically opposite points.
8 designates a coiled retractile spring having one end secured to the cross rod 6 and the remaining extremity fastened to the cross rod 7. This spring acts to hold the inner section 2 in its innermost position within the outer section 1 and when the inner section is pulled out of the outer section, the dog 4 is engaged in an adjacent tooth 3 to hold the inner section against movement into the outer section under the action of the spring 8.
F astened to the lower end of the inner section is a foot plate 9, while secured to the upper endof the outer section 1 is a cap 10 carrying a clamp 11 of some suitable construction. The lower end of the inner section 2 carrying the foot 9 is bent laterally toward the wheel of the motorcycle so that the foot may engage the ground immediately adjacent to the tread of the wheel, thereby forming a substantial bearing for the support.
In practice, the clamp 11 is fastened to one of the bars of the frame of the motor cycle and as long as the motorcycle is in motion the inner section is held in its innermost position Within the outer section by means of the spring 8. When, however, it is desired to support the motorcycle, the inner section is pulled downwardly under the action of the foot plate 9 against the action of the spring'S when the plate is in engagement with the ground, the foot may be withdrawn from the plate and the dog 1 will engage an adjacent tooth 3 to hold the sections 1 and 2 in proper relative positions so as to support the motorcycle.
The sections 1 and 2 of the support are preferably oval shaped in cross-section, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 of the drawings, so as to prevent relative turning movement of the sections.
While I have herein shown and described one preferred form of my invention by Way of illustration, I Wish it to be understood that I do not limit or confine myself to the precise details of construction herein de scribed and delineated, as modification and variation may be made Withinthe scope of the claim and Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
I claim:
A telescopic support for motorcycles and the'li'ke comprisingan outer sleeve-like sec tion and an inner sleeve-like section capable of sliding movement Within the firstmentioned section, said first-mentioned section being formed With an opening adjacent to the lower end thereof, a spring actuated dog pivoted upon the first-named section and Working inv said opening, said inner Copies of this patent may be obtained for section being formed With teeth adapted to register with the opening in the outer section to receive said dog in the outward movement of said inner section to hold the sections adjusted, cross rods carried by the outer ends of said sections, a rectractile spring arranged Within said sections and having the ends thereof connected to said cross rods respectively whereby the inner section may be drawn into the outer section uponthe release of said inner section by said dog, and a foot plate on the lower end of said inner section. v
