lle it known that l, Home H. FREEMAN, a citizen of the United'States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Lampfiocket Fixtures, of which the following is a specification. i
This invention relatesto electrical lamp sockets, and more particularly to means for securing the same to the end of a supporting fixture.
The use of lamp sockets in connection with a socket cover, or what is more com monly known as a husk fittinggmakes it necessary to seclnrely and rigidly hold the cap of the socket to the fixture. so that the shell may be readily locked to the cap and. the'entirc socket prevented from turning with the screwing in and out of the lamp. To this end, the invention has generally in view novel and lll'liH'OVtMl means whereby the attacln'nent of the socket to the fixture may be greatl facilitated, as well as :uljustments and repairs.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a common fastening"- device which socket cover against rotation. Ordinarily,
the socket cover is merely frictionally held in position, by being clamped between the locking member carried by the} cap and the end of the fixture, but according to the pres ent invention, it iscontemplated to positively engage and lock the socket cover with the cap and fixture nipple.
A further object is to provide simple and. substantial means whereby a. secure and positive union is obtained, thus forming a rigid and efficient structure.
In this connection, the invention also has in View utilization of relatively few and inexpensive parts, that materlally enhance the commercial, as Well as the practical aspect of the invention.
With the above and other objects in View which will more readily appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination. and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, illustrated and claimed.
A preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which-- Figure 1 is an enlarged vertical sectional view of a socket cover and socket cap se cured to the end of a fixture according to the present invention. In carrying out the present invention, it
is pro 'iosed to utilize a socket cap 1 of any design which may be connected in any .well
known manner with the socket shell carrying the usual switch mechanism within. By reference to the drawings, it will be observed that this socket cap 1 carries therewith a separate nut member 2 whichis rigidly fitted in the top thereof. This nut member includes a clamping head portion 3 projecting above the socket cap, and also a substantial bod portion l extending inside of the cap and having its end face formed into an angular tool receiving seat The said nut member 2 is further provided with a. central threaded opening (5 having on each side thereof, preferably at diametrically opposite points, relatively small threaded openings 7 which are adapt ed to receive hard steel locking screws As can be best observed from Fig. 1, each of these locking screws essentially comprises a threaded body having one end provided with the usual slot 9 for receiving a sore driver or similar tool, while the oppos end is formed into a pointed piercing t he 10. 1, it will be apparent that the cap carrying l05 the nut member 2 may be readily screwed onto the threaded extension 12 of the fixture nozzle by means of a suitable tool on gaging within the Wrench seat 5, to thus clamp the edge 14v of the socket cover or husk fitting 15 between the head 3 of the nut and the abutment on the nozzle.

That is to say, after the nut 2 carried by the cap has clamped the. cover in position, the screws engaging portion of the cap, and locking elements movable in and through the fix- 8 are turned so that the piercing points 10 thereof penetrate and puncture the edge 14 of the cover ,to produce metal burs that are forced or embedded in the anvil face of the abutment shoulder presented by the flange 13. Thus, the nut, cap, and cover are all ositively locked together by means which 1s accessible from within the socket cap.
From the foregoing, it is thought that the many features and advantages will be readily apparent without further description, and it will also be understood that changes in the form, proportion and minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the appended claims.
I claim: 1. A lamp socket mounting, including in combination, a fixture member, a socket cap having a fixture engaging portion, a socket cover having .a portion thereof interposed between the fixture member and the fixture ture engaging portion of the cap to lock the cap and cover to the fixture member.
2.. A lamp socket mounting, including in combination, a fixture member, a socket cap having a fixture engaging portion, a socket cover having a portion thereof interposed between the fixture member and the fixture engaging portion of the cap, and locking elements movable in and through the fixture engaging portion of the cap in a plane substantially parallel to the longitudinal axis of the fixture member to lock the cap and cover thereto.
3, A lamp socket mounting, including in combination, a fixture member, a socket cap having a fixture engaging portion, a socket cover having a portion thereof interposed between the fixture member and the fixture engaging portion of the cap, and separate removable locking elements carried by and projecting through the fixture engaging portion of the cap to lock the cap and cover to the fixture member, said separate removable locking elements being accessible from the interior of the socket cap.
4. A lamp socket mounting, including in combination, a fixture member, a socket cap carrying therewith a nut member engaging the fixture member, a socket cover having a portion thereof interposed between the nut and fixture member, and locking elements projecting longitudinally th ough said nut member and arranged to force said cover into positive locking engagement with the fixture member and also secure the cap against rotary movement.
5. A lamp socket mounting, including in combination, a fixture member, a socket cap having means rigid therewith for detachably engaging the fixture member, a* socket cover, and a fastener carried by said means for forcing said cover into positive engagement with the fixture member, and to secure the cap against rotary movement.
6. A lamp socket mounting, including in combination, a fixture member, a socket cap, a nut member rigidly carried by said cap and detachably engaging said fixture member, a socket cover, and pointed screws carried by said nut member and adapted to lock the same and said cover to the fixture member.
7. A lamp socket mounting, including in combination, a fixture member having a threaded nipple extension and an annular abutment shoulder, a socket cap, a nut me1nber rigidly carried by said cap and having a central threaded opening for engaging the nipple extension of the fixture member, said nut member having a head portion projecting above the cap and a body portion extending within the cap to form tool engaging means, a socket cover adapted to be clamped between the head of the nut member and the abutment shoulder on the fixture member, and means carried by said nut member for positively locking the cap and cover to the fixture member.
