Specification oi Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 28, 1916.
Application filed May a, 1915. Serial No. 25,815.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CARL E. TACKMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Columbus. in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Reproducer Attach ments, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention contemplates the provision of an attachment for the reproaducer of a Victrola, phonograph, or the recorder of machines of this character, in' the nature of a brush adapted to bear lightly upon the record surface to clean the latter as the needle travels through the grooves inif the record. if The lll-VentlOn aims to provide a -devi ce ofthis character which is simple in construction, capable of being readily and easily:
' associated withor removed from thereproducer when desired, and when in placeposi tively holds the brush in proper position with respect to the needle and record sur-Z face, as well as being highly ornamentalin' appearance. I I
The nature of the'invention will be better understood from the following description, wherein the structure is set forth in detail,
the invention residing in the construction, combination andarrange'ment ofparts .as claimed. I In the drawing forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and: wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the reproducer showing my invention applied thereto. Fig.- 2 is a perspective view 'of the attachments 'VVhile I have shownrny invention used in connection with :a reproducer of a Victrola, it is to be understood that the sameis susceptible of use in connection with either a recorder or reproducer ofmachines of this character. However in the specific embodiment of the invention as illustrated, the same comprises an expansible band 5 adapted to circumscribe the rubber disk 6 usually arranged upon "the rear .face of the sound box 7. The adjacent ends of, the band are curved outwardly to define the hooks 8, which latter are detachably connected with the opposite ends of a coil spring 9, the
spring operating to hold the band 5 against movement with a view; to preventing de-v posed arm 1s extended the bristles 16, are associated in' any suit-- ablemanner. By reason of this construc-' tion'it willbemanifest that thebrus'liis' 13, which latter at its free endi downwardly as at 14 terminat- .mg to prov1dea brush stock 15, with which disposed to lightlybear against thefrecord' surface 12 at a point in the rear offithe needle 11, thereby .v maintaining the record perfectly cleanas the needle travels through" the grooves in the record,
1 .The attachment can be constructed any suitable material ii -"various sizes-{and either-gold -.orfnickel plated "to correspond-,
with the particular style-of machinegwith whiehit' is intended to he used, .whichfren ders the attachment: highly .ornament'aLdnJ.
appearance when inplace upon'themacbine, f
'-."It is believed that from the foregoing de-' ;scriptio'n', thenature and advantages of theinvention will-- be; thoroughly iunderstood without requiring a vmore extended explana- 1 tion and therefore the. same has" been omitted. I-Iowever Idesireto have it' understood j that such various; changes in the construction and' arrangement offi'parts may be resorted to 'when-desired-;as[ fal1. within the scope of the appended -claim.
What is claimed is:- v An attachment of the'class described constructed from a-single piece of resilient material, and embodyingia split band 1 terminating to provide. oppositely disposed hooks,
a substantially.- L-shaped arm projecting from oneedge of the band immediately adjacent one of said-hooks, the vertical branch ofsaid; arm extendingbelow said hook and terminatingtoprovide an elongated loop,-
bristles clamped between the walls of said loop, and a coil spring having its opposite ends connected with said hooks for the pur' pose set forth; ff
" In testimony whereof'I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses;
CARL E. TAOKMANN.
