Description
H. P. KRAFT.
NURSING BOTTLE OR THE LIKE.
APPLICATION FILED MAR. 21. 1916.
V INVENTOR diameter and adapted r. mar-r, or nrnerwoon, rinw .rrnsnr,
r1. ENG-BOTTLE on rm: LIKE.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, HENRY P. KRAFT, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in Ridgewood, in the county' of Bergen and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Nursing-Bottles or the like, of which the following is a specification. v
This invention relates to nursing bottles or the like, and-aims provements therein.
The invention is particularly directed to that class of nursing bottles which have a wide mouth, the body ofthe nipple used in connection with such bottles being of large to fit over the mouth of the bottle. Such bottles have come into use because of the ease with which they can be cleaned. There is difliculty encountered in providing an adequate joint between the nipple and the mouth of the bottle, it being customary to spring the nipple over a ridge or flange on the exterior of the bottle mouth. According to nipple is constructed so that its margin lies on top of the bottle mouth and a cap is pro-- vided which is formed with a central perforation through which the nipple extends. The cap is adapted to screw on the mouth of the bottle and this exerts a distortive action upon the marginal portion of the nipple, so that the latter is subject to excessive wear. The invention includes means for v preventing this distortion and strain which comprises a ring preferably formed of metal which is inserted between the top of the cap and the margin of the nipple, such ring being free to move relatively to the cap, so that when the cap is screwed down it swivels on the ring.
The invention includes other features of improvement which will be hereinafter more fully described.
eferring to the drawings which illusdicate the bottle which as shown is usually provided with a wide mouth approaching in diameter the diameterof the body of the bottle. B is the nipple which isusually formed of rubber and is constructed with a marginal portion or flange C which is ed to lie across the top D of the bottle mouth, the latter being preferabl rounded to avoid cutting of the ni ple. T e outer portion of the bottle mouth is preferably cast with screw-threads E which are adapted to retpeoiflcation of lLettersPatent.
to provide certain im-' the present invention the 1s permanently swiveled to without departing from the adapt-- Patented Uct. Q45 191%.

ceive a cap 15 formed with similar screwthreads, the threads being usually rolled'in the metal of the cap. The cap is perforated at its center as shown at G to permit the body of the nipple to pass through it, this perforation resulting in the provision of a flange H which is adapted to bear upon the upper side of the marginal portion C of the nipple andclamp the same against the top I) of .the bottle mouth when the cap is screwed down. tion G and the provide a ring I which is preferably made of metal, or it may, be of glass or other smooth material. T e ring I being interposed between the flange and marginal portion constitutes an upon which the flange H rides when the tap is screwed down, so that distortion of the marginalportion is prevented. Preferably the ring I isturned downwardly as shown at so as to limit the out-.
J on its outer edge, ward expansion of the edge of the marginal portion and prevent it from coming in contact with the cap. Preferably also the ring the cap which may be accomplished by turning a flange-K on the ring which extends upwardly and illightly around the inner edge of the flange Between the marginal porunder side of the flange H anti-friction member By the means thus described the body of the nipple is protected from distortion and a joint -is made directly between the under side of its marginal flange and the top of the bottle mouth, so that the contents of the bottle are prevented from coming in contact with the metal cap or anti-friction ring. The device is thus sanitary and free from anger in use.
If desired the anti-friction ring may be molded or vulcanized t0 the upper surface of the nipple, so that it forms a part thereof, inwhich case, it will not be permanently coupled to the cap, but will be removable with the nipple. trate one form of the invention let A in- 1 While I have shown and described one form of the invention, it will be understood that I 'do not wish to be limited thereto, since various changes may be made therein spirit of the invention.
What I claim is a 1. In a nursing bottle or the like, the combination of a cap having a central perforation, a flange surrounding said perforation, and an anti-friction ring beneath said flange.
2. In a nursing bottle or the like, the combination of a cap having a central erforation, a flange surrounding said per oration, and an anti-friction ring beneath said flange, said anti friction ring being permanently swiveled to said cap.
3. In a nursing bottle or the like, the combination of a cap having a central perforation .a flange surrounding said perforation, an
the likeof a nipple having a marginal portion adapted to fit on the top of the bottle, a
cap havmg' a central perforation through which the body of the nipple extends, said cap hav ng a flange extending over said marginal portion, and an anti-friction ring between said flange and said marginalportion, said anti-friction ring beingpermanently swiveled to said cap.
over said 6. The combination in a nursing bottle or the like of a nip le having a marginal portion adapted to t on the top of the bottle, a cap having a central perforation through which the body of the nipple extends, said cap having a flange extendin over said marginal portion, and an antiric'tion ring between said flange and said marginal portion, said anti-frlction ring being formed with a flange overlying said cap flange, whereby to permanently swivel the ring to the cap,
7. The combination in a nursing bottle or the like of a nip 1e having a marginal portion adapted to t on the to of the'bottle, a cap having a central per oration through which the body of the nipple extends, said cap having a flange extendin over said marginal portion, and an antiriction ring between said flange and said marginal portion, said anti-frlction ring having a portion J adapted to prevent undue expansion of the edge of said marginal portion.
, In Witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two sub- SOI'lblIlg w1tnesses.
HENRY P. KRAFT.
