ANTISUBMARINE DEVICE.

To all whom it mag concern:
Be it known that I, ToNYKUsNmRoz, a sub ect of the Emperor of Austria, residing at Easthampton', county of Hampshire, and
State of Massachusetts, have invented certalnnew and useful Improvements in Antisubmarine Devices, of which the following is a s ecification.
Thls Invention relates to improvements n antltorpedo devices, as applied to sea go ng ships, and bases its special object, to provide means whereby the ship may be rene dered invulnerable against the attacks of torpedoes,-mines, and other like undersea projectiles.
' A further object is to provide a plurality of devices extending from the ship side, each independent of the other, but so correlated as to form an essential barrier against missiles of the character mentioned.
These and other like objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafterdescribed and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, ancl'in which Figure 1 is a top plan view showing ,a conventional type of ship, and indicating the application of the invention.

Referring tothe drawings, a conventional 7 type of ship is indicated by the numeral 10,
the same being supplied with all the necessary mechanism and paraphernalia for the proper navigation of the ship. Attached to the hull 11, upon opposite sides, are a. plurality of brackets 14 and 15, the same being rigidly engaged at spaced interval-s, one above the water line and the other below, as
' indicated.
Secured to the brackets are arms 16 and 17, the latter being the lowermost, these arms extending outward to a considerable distance, and ,having between their extreme unbroken row of the vertical rollers from the stem to stern of the vessel, and at a considerable distance from the hull so as to ward off the attacks of submarine missiles.
These rollers are preferably made of Wood or other material which is relatively light in nature so as to act as floats, materially supporting the structurewith which they are engaged.
' Inwardly of the row of the vertical floating rollers 20 and secured between the arms 16 and 17 are nets suspended from rods 26, which areengaged with the respective arms 16 and 17 these nets being of a character adapted to prevent the passage therethrough of small missiles which may by chance pass the guards 20.
At a point farther in, attached to the arms 16 and 17, are other longitudinalbars 28, and disposed between these bars are a lurality of vertically positioned coiled springs 30, placed closely together so as to eifectually prevent the passage of missiles directed against the hull.
From the foregoing it will be seen that eflective protective devices have been disclosed, which will prevent the impact of an undersea projectile with the hull of the ship, thereby insuring its safety upon the sea.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In an antisubmarine device, the combi nation .with the hull of a ship and plurality of brackets disposed below and abovethe water line on each side, of arms rigidly engaged with said brackets, said arms extending. laterally outward, vertical floating said tops and bottoms, rails secured .to said arms within said l'OW of floatin rollers, netting onsaid rails extending r0m.a point above to a distance below the water 1ine,.another series of rails attached to said arms,
and a plurality of springs secured to the last named row of rails, said springs being arranged closely adjacent and disposed midway between said netting and the hull of said shiIp. 10 n testimony whereof I have aifixed my signature.
