DET ACHABLE FUR COLLAR FOR COATS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 1, 1919.
Application filed May 13, 1918. Serial No. 234,240.
To all who: it may (.mwern:
Be it known that I, AAnoN H. SHnnWrN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, ham invented a new and Improved Detachable Fur Collar for Coats, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention relatesto Wearing apparel and more particularly to coats, and its 0bjcct is to provide a new and improved fur collar which can be readily placed in position on the regular or permanent cloth collar of a coat or removed therefrom when ever it is desired by-the wearer to Wear the coat without the fur collar. Another object is to permit the use of the fur collar onv various styles of permanent coat collars.
\Vith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claim.
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a rear elevation of the upper portion of a boys coat having its collar turned up to show some of the fastening members for engagement by fastening members on the fur collar;
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same;
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation of the fur collar;
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the upper portion of a coat with the fur collar in position, part of the latter being turned up; and
Fig. 5 is an enlarged cross section of the same on the line 55 of Fig. 4.
The coat 10 of usual construction is provided with the permanent collar 11 adapted to receive a fur collar 12 to give additional warmth to the wearer. The fur collar 12 is adapted to overlie the permanent collar 11 and the fur collar 12 is provided with a lining 13 on-the margin of which is arranged a pocket 14 adapted to receive the edge of the permanent collar 11. The pocl et 14 is formed by sewing a strip of textile material to the lining 13, as plainly indicated in Figs. 3, 4 and 5. By the use of this pocket the fur collar is held snugly on the permanent collar 11, it being understood that the pocket 14 overlies the contour of the permanent collar 11.
In order to detachably fasten the fur collar 12 in position on the permanent collar 11, use is made of fastening members 15, 16, preferably of the stud and socket type, and of which the fastening members 15 are secured to the under side of the pocket 14 Whilethe members 16 are attached to the back of the permanent collar 11, as plainly indicated in Fig. 1. A second set of fastening members 17, 18 detachably connect the fur collar 12 to the neckband portion 19 of the permanent collar 11, and for this purpose the fastening members 17 are arranged along the inner edge of the lining 13 (see Fig. 3), and the fastening members 18 are arranged along the inner face of the neckband portion 19 of the permanent collar 11. It will be noticed that the fasteners 15, 16 and 17, 18 can be readily engaged with each other to securely fasten the fur collar 12 in position on the permanent collar 11. When it is desired to wear the coat without the fur collar it is only necessary for the user to disconnect the fastening members 15, 16 and 17, 18 and then slip the fur collar off the permanent collar 11.
By arranging the fastening members 17 and 18 on the coat 10 in the manner described these fastening members are not visible when the coat 10 is worn without the fur collar 12 and hence the said fastening members 17 and 18 do not detract from the appearance of the coat.
It is understood that the fur collar is shaped to correspond to the permanent collar of the coat on which it is to be used and hence such fur collar can be arranged for use on coats having different styles of collars. ed to include the lapel of the collar, if such is desired.
Having thus described my invention, I
The fur collar can also be extendclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters fastening the said pocket to the back of Patent the permanent collar, and fastening de 10 In combination, a coat provided with a vices detachably connecting the inner marpern'lanent collar, a fiur collar overlying gin of the fur collar with the inner face 5 the said permanent collar, the fur collar of the neck-band portion of the permanent having at its back a marginal pocket into collar. which pocket fits the edge of the said permanent collar, fastening devices detaehably AARON HERMAN SHERWIN.
