SHAVING-STICK HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, WILLARD G. RICH, of Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shaving- Stick Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, formin a part of this specification, and to the re erence-numerals marked thereon.
My present invention has for its object to provide a holder for shaving sticks, which will afford an ample grip for the fingers of the user; will enable the shaving stick, when not in use, to be supported in an upright position, adding thereto, in the first instance, a very desirable capability of attractive display and which is so constructed that the purchaser is not misled or deceived as to the quantity of material or soap comprising the sh'a'ving stick proper. A further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character, comprising few parts, which is simple in construction and easily assembled, and from which the stub or unused end of the soap stick may be easily removed and another inserted. To these and other ends the invention consists in certain improvements and combinations of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out in the claims at the end of the specification.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side elevation showing a soap stick and a holder applied thereto constructed in accordance with my present invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar illustration showing a central cross sectional view of the holder.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the interior cup-shaped portion.
Similar numerals in the drawings indicate similar parts.
In a device of this character, it is desirable to provide a holder which is flat across the bottom or lower edge so that the soap stick, when not in use, may be supported in an upright or vertical position, and also give the holder a sufficient length to enable the user to firmly grip it in his hand, as his hands are frequently wet or moist when the stick is used for the purpose intended. The flat bottom of the holder is desirable not only for the convenience of the user, but also for the reason that it enables the goods to be readily displayed in an attractive man- Specification of Letters Patent.

ner on the counters, and in the show-cases and windows of the store keepers. However, a disadvantage exists in adopting the previous construction of holders of this general character because lengthening the handle for the convenience of the user and for the additional advantages of display, which it affords, necessitates either providing a body of soa which is longer than need be, if the han le is filled, or deceiving the purchaser if the soap stick only extends outer tubular member in the form of abroad ring, comprising a band portion 2, which may be of any desired length, and the upper portion provided with screw threads indicated by 3, formed by rolling or crimping the sheet nietal helically. The threaded portion of the holder I preferably make of lesser diameter than the band 2, thus providing an annular shoulder 4 at the base of the screw threads. 'This shoulder positions the inner member, but it is not necessary that the shoulder be located at the particular point indicated. For instance, the shoulder might be located at the point 5, or a second shoulder provided in this location, in which event it would be formed at the time the outwardly projecting annular rib 6 is made to form the abutment or stop cooperating with the lower end of the cap or tubular case, which is usually provided as indicated in dotted lines in Fig. 1. When the shoulder 5 is provided, the lower end of the band portion of the holder is made slightly larger in diameter as indicated at 2*.
The inner member of the holder is cupshaped and comprises an annular wall fitting within the band 22 and provided with a top 8, which extends transversely the holder to limit the entrance of the soap stick when turned into the screw threads. wall. or partition 8, is for this reason prefera'bly located at the bottom of the screw threads, and its edge butts against the shoulder 4. The latter limits the movement of the inner or cup-shaped member in one This direction, or inwardly, and its removal or displacement in the other direction, or outwardly, is prevented by an interlockingengagement affected between the, side walls of the two members, which is preferably accomplished by abead 9 on the lower end of the outer member, inclosing the lower edge of the wall 7 of the inner member; a
To facilitate the removal of the stub end or portion of the soap stick, whichremains after the'soap has worn down to the level of the upper edge of the screw threads 3-, I provide in the top Wall or partition 8 an aperture 8*, which enables the operator to grasp the remaining stub, or disk, of soap between the thumb and fingers by inserting the thumb through the bottom of the holder and the aperture 8 into-contact with the lower end of the soap, and by engaging the latter with the first and second fingers of the same hand, the soap can be hold while the holder is rotated to back the screw OE and effect its disengagement.
I claim as my invention:
1. A shaving. stick holder comprising a tubular member having substantially straight side walls and provided with an upper end of lesser diameter forming an annular shoulder and provided with an interior screw thread, an inner cup-shaped member slipping within the interior of the tubular memher and limited in its inward movement by engagement with said shoulder, and having a bottom closing the outer member at the bottom of the screw thread, said members 35 having an interlocking engagement at their lower ends to prevent withdrawal of the inner member. i
2; A holder for shaving sticks comprising an open cylindrical member having a band portion with straight side walls and pro:- vided with an interior screw threaded portion above the band, an inner cup-shaped member having a bottom and side walls slipping and inserted within the band with 4 its bottom located below the screw threads, and a head on the bottom edge of the band inclosing the edge of the side Wall of the inner member.
3. A shaving stick holder comprising a tubular member open at the ends and provided with an interior screw-thread at one end and a partition fixed in said member below the screw thread intermediate the: ends of the memberto limit the inward movement 7 of a'soap stick, and provided with an aperture adapted to permit opposite sides of the stub end o-fa soap stick in the holder tobe engaged and held to facilitate the disengagement of the screw thread therefrom.
