MARKING-TICKET.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 25, 1919.
Application filed May 4, 1915. Serial No. 25,832.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GUSTAF A. WALLIN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Scotch Plains, county of Union, State of New Jersey, have invented an Improvement in Marking-Tickets, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention has for its object the provision of a marking ticket of simple, strong and inexpensive construction so constructed that both surfaces of the body portion may be printed with suitable indicia at one operation and which when attached to the article to be marked cannot be removed without-the destruction of the ticket. The object is further to provide a marking ticket adapted for marking various articles but more particularly jewelry, for example, rings and similar articles in which it is undesirable to have metal come in contact with the article to be marked.
The nature and object of the invention will more fully appear from the accompanying description and drawings and will be particularly pointed out in the claims. The drawings disclose the simple and preferred form of the invention and illustrate it in connection with the marking of a finger ring.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the complete marking ticket attached to a ring;
Fig. 2 is a plan View of the blank or unfolded ticket;
Fig. 3 is a view in longitudinal central cross-section of the completed ticket.
The marking ticket may be made of any suitable sheet material such as is employed in the manufacture of marking tickets and may be, for example, of cardboard or sized fabric such as used in such devices.
The marking ticket comprises a foldable body portion preferably of generally elongated rectangular shape as shown in Fig. 2, wherein the line of fold 1 separates the two similar foldable portions 2 and 3 of the body portion. The edges of the ticket preferably are provided with indentations having theirapexes terminating at the line of fold 1. It also comprises a relatively narrow foldable integral neck portion extending from the body portion and preferably central thereof. This neck portion is shown as foldab-le at the line f and comprising the two foldable parts 5 and 6. The body portlon is provided adjacent the neck portion with an aperture 7 preferably of circular configuration and at an opposite point as for example at the opposite end of the body portion with a second similar aperture 8. The neck portion at its free end is provided with a similar aperture 9. These'three apertures are so arranged that when the neck and body portions are folded they will come into registration.
When the marking ticket is to be applied to an article the neck portion is passed through the article to be marked, is then folded upon itself to bring the apertures 9 and 7 into registration, and then the body portion is folded upon itself to bring the part 3 on top of the part 2 with the free end of the neck interposed and with the apertures 8 and 9 and 7 in registration.
With the parts thus superimposed and the apertures in registration a suitable fastening device is inserted through the apertures and secured in place to connect permanently the three superimposed parts together. A preferable fastening device indicated for this purpose is an eyelet 10 which may be set in the usual manner.
The blank forming the body portion in its unfolded condition presents the surfaces of the parts 2 and 3 which subsequently form the exterior of the body portion in a plane so that they may be printed at one operation with suitable indicia such as price, size or other marks.
There is thus presented a ticket which may be inexpensively manufactured and which may be readily secured to the article desired to be marked. The neck portion being made of the same material as the body portion and the free end of the neck portion being firmly held in place between the folded parts of the body portion presents a strong construction and at the same time one which when in engagement with the article to be marked will not injure or mar the article. The ticket has also the obvious advantages that it cannot be removed from the article when once applied thereto without the destruction of the ticket and thus serves indisputably to indicate any attempt to detach the ticket from the article.
Having fully described my invention,
What I claim as new and desire to secure 1 by Letters Patent is:
l 1.7A marking ticket comprising a body portion of fibrous material having a transverse folding line, apertures in said body portion located at equal distances from said folding line and adapted to be superposed, a
neck portion integral- With'. said body portion and extending from one end of said body po'r tion in'alinement With said apertures and an aperture adjacent the end of said neck portion which by folding the neck portion may be caused to register With the apertures in thebody portion and a fastening device Which when passed through said apertures Will secure the neck portion to the bodyportion in the form-0 f aloop and Will also's'ecure the folded portion of the bodytogether.
2. A marking ticket comprising a body portion of fibrous material having a median transverse folding line, and notched at the ends of said folding line, apertures insaid body portion located at equal distances from said folding line and adapted to be superposed, a neck portion integral With said body portion and extending from one end of said body portion in alinementwith said apertures and having a transverse 'folding line, an aperture adjacent the end of said neck portion Which by folding the neck portion on said folding line may be caused to register With the apertures in the body portion and a fastening device which 'when passed through said apertures 'Will secure the-neck-portion t0 the body portion in the form of a loop and will also securethe folded portions of the bodytogether;
' In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification. V
