Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 4, i919.
Application filed May 20, 1918. Serial No. 235,676 g 1 To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Ronnncr F. FERGUSON,
a citizen of the United States, and a resident shaped of Dearborn, 1n the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamp- Brackets, of which'the following is a specification.
y invention is an improvement in lam brackets, and has for its object to provide a simple and inexpensive bracket of the character specified, capable of vertical, lateral, or radial adjustment.
In the drawings z- Figure l is a side view of the improved bracket,
Fig. 2 is a top plan view,
ig. 3 is a section ,on the line 3-3 of Fig.
1, looking in the direction of the arrows adjacent to the line,
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a portion of the supportm' means,
Fig. 5 is a simi Fig. 6 is a section on the line 6-6 of Fig.
acent to the line, I Fig. 7 is a perspective view of the sleeve, Fig. 8 is a -similar view of the lamp supporting member, and
ig. 9 is a detail side view showing a modiconstruction.
In the present embodiment of the invention shown in Figs. l'to 8 inclusive, the intermediate portion of the bracket'as apart from the lamp engaging member and the fixed object engaging member, shaped member comprising a vertical portion 1 and a h tions being circular in cross section as shown, and meeting at right angles. The fixed ob ject engaging member comprises an arc plate 3 which is its concaved face intermediate its upper. and lower edges. The plate has at each side edge, a perforated earfi5 and these ears are adapted to engage the arms of aclip 6 which embraces the stafl or standard at the opposite prevented from downward Set screws 14 are 70 ar view of another portion, I
upper side and interme iate its ends. 4, looking in the directlon of the arrows adstandard to secure-the proper tension andprevent slipping of the fixed support engagat mg member. A holding. bar 9 is arrang vertically on the convexed face of the plate at the center thereof, the said bar extending above and below the'ends of the plate, and
this bar isadapted to be secured a similar vbar 10 on a bearmg sleeve or collar 11. The bars 9 and 10 have registering openings in their ends for receiving screws 12 which connect the .bars, the screws having threaded engagement with the openings he vertical portion 1 of the intermediate portion of the bracket engages this collar 11, extending through the same and it is movement by a split or cotter pin 13. threaded thr with the vertical portion is held'in adjusted position by set screws and as a. transverse In or plate 17 on gifts 0 this plate is connected 9. cross head 18 on the lamp supporting plate 19, the cross head being into ral with the plate. passed t rough registering openings in the ends of the cross head and Iplate and are engaged b and f lamp or for a shade. plate 19 has a lug 23 which forms a shoulder for limiting the outward lamp. In use th justed vertically to vary the vertical position of the element 19, or the element 19 may be adjusted toward and from the stafi' or standard 4,
hole may be adjusted about the stafi or standard, and the intermediate portion of the support may be swung about the staif or standard 4 from side to side thereof.
In the embodiment of the invention shown M0 in Fig. 9, the bearing sleeve 24 which corresponding to the. bar 10 secured directly of the bar At its outer end, the
moving on the element 2. The device he construction is otherwise thesa-me as that shown in Figs. 1 to 8.
I claim: nected with the other collar, each collar hav- A bracket comprising an L-shaped bar of 1ng means for securlng the same in adjusted circular cross section, a collar enga ng each posltion.
mernber of the bar and adjustable t ereon, a ROBERT FRANCIS FERGUSON. scctlonal clamp connected with one of the Witnesses: v collars forengagjng a fixed support, and a JAS. GUINAN,
plate for supportmg a lamp detachably con- OSCAR L. ETHRIDGE.
