To all it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALFRED CoLLIs, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Elevating- Trucks, Transporters, or the like', of which the following is a specification;
The object-of this invention 'is to construct an elevating platform, truck,'transporter or the like with jacks or similar lifting appliances actuated by a movement of the steering or a movable handle and the invention consists essentially 'of the combination of a frame carrying wheels, an elevating platform, jacks or similar lifting ap pliances connecting the frame orsome part thereof or the wheel axles with the elevating latform, means connecting the. jacks or simi ar lifting appliances with the steering or movable handle for actuating the jacks for lifting or lifting front the following description aided by the annexed drawings in which Figure l'is a side elevati like.

back and also the ell crank levers 9 for their pawls 13 to engage the next lower tooth in the racks 7 and by a continued reciprocating movement of the handle the jackswill be lifted and when the platform 6 has been raised the desired height the bottom lugs 21 on the depending posts 19 will have engaged the pins 22 of the rocking levers 14 on the bell crank axles 10 and moved them over and as soon as the pins 15 have passed the highest point 33 the springs 16 will act upon the pins 15 and cause them to move the rocking levers 14 over by engaging the sloping portion until the endis nearly reached and the sloping portions 18 come against the pins 23 on the pawls 11, the weight of the platform 6 and load holding the pawls 11 in engagement with the racks 7 against the pressure of the springs 16 on the pins 15 see Fig. 5, and the recesses 17 in the levers 14 will engage the pins 24 on the pawls 13 pivoted to the bell crank levers, the platform being held by the pawls 11 in the raised position.
To lower the platform the handle is pushed fully back and its jaws or yoke will engage the ends of the distancing rods and move the bell crank levers ov'era'nd the pawls 13 being free from the recess 17 will by the action of their springs engage a tooth and slightly lift the racks 7 releasing the pressure of the platform andload on the pawls 11 and allow the pins 15 as complete their movement to the end of the slope 33 of the rocking lever 14 and thus to move these levers 14, and the sloping surfaces 18 engaging the pins 23 will then move the pawls 11 away from their teeth, the springs 16 on the pins 15 being stronger and will overcome the tension of the springs of the pawls 11 and allow the platform to be lowered by the pawls 13. When the platform is lowered one tooth the pins 24 on the pawls 13 will come against the sloping portions 18 of the rocking" levers 14 and press same downward and be forced along same into the recesses 17 and out of engagement-with their teeth in the racks 7 at the same time owing to the noses of the rocking levers 14 being pressed downward the sloping surfaces 18 will be moved away from the pins 23 on the pawls 11 and allow the pawls 11 under action of their springs to engage with teeth in the racks 7 and hold same for a repeat operation of the pawls 13 and by a continued reciprocal movement of the handle the platform will be lowered and just as the lowering is reaching its limit other stops 20 on the posts will push the rocking levers over and the spring pins 15 will pass over the" point 33 and act on the other slope and will place them in the opposite position and clear I of the pawls, the platform resting on the two pawls see Fig. 7 or on the frame.
The rods 25 between the jacks mechanism are positioned to insure that all pawls move the said frame, ack mechanism arranged in pairs at opposite sides of the frame and each provided with a toothed' post, the jack mechanism connecting the frame and the platform, bell crank levers carrying pawls operative to raise and check the movement of the posts, a longitudinally shiftable rod connected to the jack mechanism on each side of the frame through the bell crank levers, rook levers closely associated with the bell crank levers for releasing the pawls relatively to the posts, holding means engaging the said rock levers, a handle mounted at the forward portion of the truck and having devices for engaging the forward ends of the rods for actuating the jacks and causing the platform to rise and lower, and means extending downwardly from the platform for operating the rock levers to cause the latter to perform their function.
