To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that ll', Geenen B. MULLEN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, Bayside, borough of Queens, in the county of Queens and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Light-Reflecting Hand-Signal, of which the following is a full, clear and exact description.
l'lhis invention relates to a signal device that is adapted to be worn on the hand of a driver of an automobile'or other vehicle to serve as a stopping or turning Warning to the driver of a following vehicle, and also the device may be worn by traiic policemen.
The object of the present invention is to provide a light redecting hand signal mounted in a holder which is attached to the hand, the signal being in the form oir' a crystal which becomes illumined from rays ot light shining thereon, as from the headcar, or from a lamp on the vehicle in which is the driver who has the light redecting hand signal.
With such and other objects in view, the invention comprises various novel features of construction and arrangement of parts which will be set forth with particularity in the following description and claim appended hereto.
ln the accompanying drawing, which illustrates one embodiment of the invention and wherein similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a fragmentary View of the rear of a car showing the drivers signalbea-ring hand extended;
2 is a view ot the signal device detached; and
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view through the crystal holder with the crystal therein.
Reiterringv to the "drawing, a crystal about the diameter of a dollar coin, more or less, which has a plurality of facets 2 for reflecting light, the crystal having a metal or other redecting element or -surface 3 at the back so that light passing through l designates `v titi able material which cooperates with the member 7 to constitute a supportin for the crystal. lhe pad is provid with a plurality ot attaching elements in the form of an elastic band 8 which passes around the palm of the hand, and a strap 9 which passes around the wrist, said strap having a buckle for facilitating the attaching and removal of the device.
rllhe signal device is ot comparatively simple and inexpensive construction, easily applied or removed, and is of light weight and allows the hand free for controlling the car or any other purpose.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the advantages ot the construction and method of operation will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains, and while li have described the principle of operation, together with the device which l now consider to be the best embodiment thereof, l desire to have it understood that the device shown is merely illustrative and that such changes may be made when desired as fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, ll claim as new anddesire to secure by Letters Patent:
the accompanying drawing,
pad Y tid lli
A hand sial of the class described comi prising a light-redecting crystal, a pad for holding the same, an elastic band connected with the pad at one side and adapted to pass around the palm, and means on the pad at the opposite side adapted to pass around the-wrist and cooperate with the band to hold the pad on the back of the hand.
