hesitate Application filed may 11,
n) all whom it may concern:
Le it known that I, FREDERICK G. JORDAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cement, in the county of Pend iii-Z Oreille and State of Washington, have made certain new and useful Improvements in 'ieinforcing Elements for Cement and Conrete FVorlt, of which the following is a eciiication.
is present invention relates generally to re inforcing" elements for concrete and cement worn. and particularly to a reinforcement for walls and structures of the same general nature of a web ghaving ribs to strengthen the same, and having its said ribs provided with means to permit of connection of adjacent layers, as well as adjacent reinforcelernents, either in lapping or non-lappingrelation, and extending either horizontally, vertically, or angularly, as desired,
said means of attaching adjacent elere nts being capable of utilization for the port of other and 'separete parts, all'as more fully described and set accompanying drawing illustratpresent invention 'e l is an elevation illustrating sevrny improved reinforcing elements in connects relation; 2 is members in connected relation;

an edge view of certain of the clearly seen by a comparison of Figs. 3 and 6, and having along 1ts central portion a longitudinal rib 12. These Fibs 1O, 11 and 12 are connected by Webs including transverse str ps 13 at spaced points in the length of the reinforcing element, and angular arms 1 which join the corners of the spaces thus bound by the longitudinal and transverse ribs, thestrips or ribs 13 and 14 extending. transversely and angularly, leav ing between them interstices through which the plastic; material isvfree to pass incrdei' that arigid union and a uniformly effective bond may be had at all times.
The ribs 10 and 11 extending longitudinally along each of the elements, are prefe'rably flanged, so that the sides of each element are not only reinforced, but provision is made for the engagement of adjacent elements along their longitudinal edges;
These flanges may beof a g bent back nature,;-as indicated at 15, in Figs. 5 and 6, the flanged side ribs being slightly offset with respect to the plane of the major portion of the element and the reverting flanges 15 being turned in opposite directions, or. the flanges may be turned laterally andbe either double on each end, as seen at 16 at one side of-Fig, 2, or one flange of each element may be single, as
in either case it is obvious that the. flanges 15, 16 and 17 provide for the relative engagement of the longitudinal edges of adjacent elements, and to further secure the elements in such engagement, each of the elements may have laterally projecting webs Patented Feb.11, ieie.

seen at 17, at the left hand side of Fig. 2. i
p04, or to engagethe cen- It will be noted ithat the tongues 20 extend lengthwise of the central ribs 12,while 1 the tongues wnproject transversely with respect to the side ribs 10 and 11, or inv other words; at right-angles to tongues 20. In order to strengthen the central ribs 12, they may be crimped to provide either aparallel fold, as seen in Fig. 6, or single or double lateral folds, the last mentioned structure of which is seen in Fig. 2.
The various elements when fabricated may have their ends lapped, or elements may be disposed horizontally to lap the adjacent ends of vertically disposed elements, and the horizontally disposed elements, one of which is seen in Fig. 1, may in this case have their central'tongues :20 utilized and bent around the connected side ribs of adjacent vertically disposed elements, as may be clearly seen by reference to this figure.
It is thus obvious that my invention provides a reinforcing element for cement and concrete construction which will have a Wide application to buildings, ships and other concrete and cement structures, which is susceptible of ready, inexpensive inanu facture, and which is capable of effective and eificient use for its intended purposes.
I claim 1. A reinforcing element for cement concrete Work having spaced parallel at the center and side edges thereof, having ribs connecting the central and ribs and forming connecting webs, the
and ribs and side said central and side ribs having integral struck up portions forming connecting tongues, of Which the gitudinally and the side tongues are disposed transversely, of the element for-the purpose describe 2. A reinforcing element for cement and concrete work having spaced parallel ribs at the center and side edges thereof, and having ribs connecting the central andsidc ribs and forming connecting webs, said central ribs having longitudinally extending and integral tongues struck up therefrom, and said side ribs having transverse integral tongues struck up therefrom for the purpose described. V
3. A reinforcing element for ,cement concrete Work having spaced parallel at the center and side edges thereof, and having ribs connecting the central and side ribs and forming connecting Webs said cen tral and side ribs having integral struck up tongues arranged longitudinally along the central ribs and transversely adjacent to the side ribs, and said side ribs having flanges along the edges thereof for the purand ribs pose described.
