The invention relates to automobilesl antotruchs, acroplanes and similar vehicles iising internal combustion engines as the motive power. 4
'l'he ohjcct of the invention is tolproride a new and improved safetyflocking device for such vehicles,arranged to prevent an unauthorized .person from startin and runnin, r the niotor. Another ohjectis to permit at' conveniently applying 4the llockingdcvico in vehicles now in use without .materially altering the construction thereof. Another object. is to sound an alarm whenever an unauthorized` person tampcrs .with the safety locking device.

It will benoticed that when the button 24 is pressed the contact 137 swings into engagement. with the ' contacts 138 and 135 und at the same time tho free end of the lever 184 engage the arm 150 and im `arto a swinging motion to the same there y roeklnfg the shaft 152. .The rocking of the sha t 152 causes its arul 154 to engaze tail 156 of the catch 157 w iereby tie latter moves out of en 'agement with tho switch lever 144 thus re. easing the latter. The action nf the spring 141 on the button 25 and its reduced port ion 140 now causes the switch lover 144 to swing forward 'whereby' the contact 147 moves ont of engagement with the contacta 148 and 140. Tn a similar lnnu ner when t.he button 25 is pmtsed the contact. 147 moves into engagement with the contacts 148 and 140 and at' the same titllne4 1o.

The operation is as follows:
When the several parts are in the position shown in4 Fi 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 and the keys 1,18 an( 96 are removed then the ignition circuitis open. When an unauthorized person now presses any one of the buttons 23 other ythan those in the combination 3, 0 and 410 it ca nses the corresponding 'switch lever 40 to be actuated whereby the alarm circuit is closed, as previously explained and-thc alarm is sounded. As the actuated switch leveris locked against return movement by the spring 83 it is evident that the alarm A81 keeps on sounding and the unauthorized person 1s foiled in closing the ignition circuit and hence is not able to start. the engine. The sounding of the alarm naturally attracts tho` owner ,of themachine who.. by insentln th'ekey 06 and actuating the' i'ilechnnism 2 causes the switch lever 74 to move out l? engagement with the contact 70 to break the alarml circuit. When the driver desires to start it is necessaryr for him to press the buttons 23 in the combination, that is,.thoso`1narkcd 3, i) and 11),
where-by the corresponding switch levers 46 close the gnitioncircuit at thc corrcspondf ing ips, and when the driver now inserts the ey 1 18 and turns the same then the contact 114 is moved in engagament with the contacts 115 to finally close the ignition circuit thus allowing starting of the engine.
The key 06 may be withdrawn by the driver but the key 118 remains in osition and when thc driver leaves the mac xine he turns the key 11 8 back to the witlulrawalI position and removes it thus moving the contact 114 out of engagement with the contact and atthe saine time the set switch levers 40 ale released and return to their normal-inactive.
