Specificationof Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 28, 1919.
Application filed Eanuary 3, 1918. Serial No. 216,:339.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, CATHERINE V. WILSON,
' will'cciable others skilled in the art to which 4 port mounted. I
tages of the invention will be apparent froming my invention comprises the bottom .1,
preferably formed of sheet metal and pro longitudinally extending flutes- ISO it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to holders or supports for fiat-irons, and 'particularly to those of the type adapted to be permanently 'secured to ironing-boards.
The object of my invention is the provision of an improveddevice of the class" described, which is simple and eiiicient in its construction. and on which an electric iron may be left standingfor any length of time with the current on Without liability of bur-11 iiig the board or member on which the sup- Other .ob acts and ad vain the following detailed description.
While the invention, in its broader aspect, is capable of embodimentin numerous forms, a preferred embodiment thereof illustrated. in the accompanying drawings, in WlllCll Figure lfis holder einbodyin broken away am, with the board on which mounted in transverse section. Fig. 2 is a side elevation thereof, with a part broken away, and Fig.3.is a top perspective view of an end ortion of a board with the holder mounted t ereon.
gThe fiat-iron holder or support embodyan inner end elevation of a vided with or corrugations and having the opposite side and rear end, edges thereof turned up to provide a confining Wall or flange 2-. The metal or material i'orming the wall 2, after extending upward a short distance, is turned outwards-11d downward to form a leg lor supportingflange 3, which extends downward below the-plane of the'bottom 1 and has its lower edge turned outward to form a foot flange at. The bottom 1 of the holder,
, the front. end or open side thereof, is promy invention, with a part vided with an extension 5, which declines gradually outward from the plane of sa ui bottom to the plane of the foobfiange l, said extension being preferably free from corru gations, as shown.
The holder is intended to be permanently mounted onan 'ironing-boa1'd 6, or-0ther suitable support,'by securing the foot-flange 4 and the outer end of the extension 5 thereto by screws '2', or in any other suitable manner, and it is preferable in practice, but not lnecessary,to space the holdcri'roin the boardv :6 by a sheet 8 of-asbe'stos'or other suitable heat insulating material. It is preferable to provide the leg-flange 3 at intervals with openings 9 to permit a free circulation of air under the bottom 1, and also to provide air circulating openings 10 in the channels of the bottom. e v v in applying; the h0ld1"lT-0 "an ironingboard it is preferable to place itat one end of the board beyond "the customary cloth covering or pad 11, with the extension 5 projecting lengthwise of the board toward the covering or padding and terminating I substantially in end abutment withthe ad.- qacent end edge thereof, as shown, with the,
top surface of the end edge of the tongue substantially flush with the top surface of the coverin so that an iron can be freely slid from t e c vering onto and up-the extensionoto ,theibottom 1 Without raising the iron'f-roin the board. y I 1t is evident that Ihave provided a simple and efficientfiat-iron' snp ort, which will prevent the liability of fire yreason of -a ,heated iron being" left'standing for any considerable time on the support,- aiid'that it also saves considerable energy on the part of the person ironing by reason of the holder extension 5 terminatingLat its outer' end substantially fiush withthe'surface of the board covering.
I Wish it understood that my'inven'tion is not limited to any specific, construction, ar-
rangement or form of the parts, except in so form retaining walls and then outward and downward to form a leg-flange which exholder comprising a bot- I tem portion, with its side, and outer end edges extending upwards short distance to tends below the plane of the bottom, and the front end edge of the bottom having an outward extension which declines therefrom and terminates substantially in the plane of the lower edge of the leg-flange.
2. A fiat-iron holder comprising a bottom, the side and rear end edges of which extend upward a short distance to form a retaining wall and then outward and clownward to form a leg-flange, with its lower end extending outward to form a foot-flange which is disposed below the plane of the bottom, said bottom and leg-flange having air circulating openings therein, and the forward end of the bottom having an outward extension which declines therefrom and terminates substantially in the plane of the lower edge of said foot-flange.
3. A fiat-iron holder formed of sheet metal and comprising a corrugated bottom having the side and rear end edge thereof extending upward a short distance to form a retaining wall and then extending outward and downward to form a leg-flange, said bottom and legflange having air circulating openings therein, the'bottom being extended outward and and the forward edge of downward on a gradual decline to the plane of the lower end ofthe leg-flange and having its outer end portion plain.
4. The combination With an ironing-board having a padded covering on aportion thereof, of a flat-iron holder mounted on said board at one end of said covering, said holder comprising a bottom portion which is corrugated lengthwise thereof and spaced from the board and having its side and rear end edges extending upward a short distance to form a retaining wall and then extending outward and downward to form a leg-flange, with the lower end thereof extending outward to form a foot-flange for resting on the board, said bottom and leg flange having air circulating openings, and the bot-tom having a plain outward extension at its forward end which declines therefrom and terminates at its outer end in substantial abutment with the adjacent end edge of said covering flush therewith, and means securing the holder to the board.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto signed my name to this application.
CATHERINE V. WILSON.
