UNITE sTATnsrA'rENr onnion.
HAROLD H. WILL, OF SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, ASSIG-NOR TO THE WILL & BAUMER 00.,
SYRACUSE, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION-0F NEW YORK.
CANDLE-LAMP.
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Syracuse, in the county of Onondaga. and
State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Candle-Lamp, of which the following is a specification.
' This invention has for its object a candle lamp which is particularly simple and light 10" in construction, and highly eflicient, strong and'durable in use, and it consists in the combinations and constructions hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In describing this invention, reference is had to the accompanying drawings, in which like characters designate corresponding parts in all the views. I
Figure 1 is a transverse sectional view, partly in elevation, of a preferable form of my candle lamp.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the base thereof.
This candle lamp comprises, a base, including an upright wall or cup which incloses a candle receiving space, a candle holder held by the base within the cup, and a chimney supported by said cup.
1 designates the base including a body which is here illustrated as a tray, and an upright wall 2 inclosing the candle receiving space, said wall being disposed centrally of the tray.
3 is the candle holder held within the wall 2, and here shown as in the form of a cup in which the candle 4 is located, the cup being preferably made of transparent glass, and the candle preferably fitting, and bein located entirely within the cup.
5 is the chimney which telescopes in the upper portion of the wall 2 and rests at its lower edge against inwardly projecting shoulders 6 provided on the inner side of the upright wall 2 below the upper edge thereof. Preferably the shoulders 6 are formed by indenting the wall 2 at intervals from its outer side.
7 are perforations in the annular wall 2 which extend below the shoulders6 in order to permit the air to be drawn into the chimney 5 below the chimney to support combustion. The perforations 7 are here shown as ornamental in character.
The tray of the base has a central depression 8 and a groove 9 in the bottom of the depression adjacent the side wall of the depression; the groove 9 providing an ex- Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jan. 21, 1919.
' Application filed September 14, 1915. Serial N 0. 50,705.
ternal bead 10 011 the lower side of the tray of the base upon which bead the base rests. Instead of one continuous groove, and one bead being formed, a number of short grooves and beads may be provided. The base 1 is also provided with a suitable handle 11.
The upright wall 2 fits within the side wall of the depression 8 and said wall 2 is formed with an inturned flange 12 at its lower edge which overlies and closes the groove 9 and also laps upon the bottom of the depression 8, such flange 12 having its inner margin 13 upturned forming an internal upright wall concentric with the wall 2 but of less height than the same. The
, wall 2 and the margin 13 constitute inner and outer concentric walls, and are usually annular in form.
The candle holder rests upon the bottom of the depression 8 and fits the inner annular wall 13, the annular wall 13 holding the candle holder 3 in position.
The chimney or globe 5 may be of suitable form, size and construction, but is here shown as cylindrical in general form with its top contracted as at 14:. The contracted top cooperates with the air inlets 7 to keep the candle burning without flickering.
What I claim is:
1. A candle lamp comprising a base formed with inner and outer upright walls spaced apart and projecting upwardly above the face of the base so that the inner wall is located within the outer wall with an annular space between them,.a candle holder having its lower portion seated within the inner wall, and a chimney carried by the outer wall above the inner wall, the candle holder projecting above the inner wall, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. A candle lamp comprising a base including a tray, and a wall having a major part rlsing from the tray centrally thereof and inclosmg a candle receiving space, the wall having an inturned flange at its lower edge, the flange having its inner margin bent upwardly forming an annular wall concentric with said major part, a candle holder having its base fitting the inner annular wall, and a chimney supported by said major part, substantially as and for the purpose described."
3. A candle lamp comprising a base including a body formed with a central depression, and with an internal groove around the outer margin of the bottom of the depression, the groove providing: an ex? ternal bead on which the base rests, the base. also including an upright wall fitting the side wall of the depression and having an inturned flange at its lower edge covering said" the margin of the bottom of thedepression, the grooveproviding anexternali beadon which the base rests, the base including an upright wall fitting the side wall-0f the-dc pression and having an inturned flange at itsv lower edge covering said groove and lapping the bottom of the depression, said flange having its inner margin extending, upwardly and arranged concentric with the" major part of said upright wall, a candle holder having its lower portion fitting with? Copies of this patent may be obtained for five' cents each,'by addressing the Commissioner,'of'Patentti,
in said margin, and a chimney supported by said major part of the annular wall,
substantially; as and; for: the purpose specified.
5. A candle lamp comprising a base including a tray formed with a central depression, and an upright wall fitting the centric with the major: part-- of' said Wall,
said major part being' formed withv aishoulider below its upper edge,a=-candle.-holder; having its lower portion. fitting. said inner margin, and a chimne. extending into the: upright Wall. and. restl'ngionl the. shoulder,
substantially. as and forithe purpose. setforth;
signed my name, at'Syraeuse, in the county of Onondaga, and State of NW-a York, this,
