Description

- L.. PO H.
Vent for Beer-Casks.
No. 129,166. Patenuredjuxywnwz..
Wknw, i mwnlm.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
Louis. ron, oF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
Specification forming pari; of Letters Patent No. 129,166, dated July 16, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, LOUIS POH, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Vent for Beer and other Casks, of which the following is a specification My improvements relate to that class of vents which are self-operating, depending only on the owin g liquid and con sequent suction or partial vacuum in the cask, causing a pressure on the under side of the valve, by which it is lifted from its seat and air admitted to the Cask; and the invention consists in providing the vent with a removable cover, which incloses the valve and air-passages in an airtight chamber, and also acts as a gauge to prevent the valve-from being lifted entirely from its seat, and the peculiar arrangement of the valve, air-passages, and stop-cock, or other regulating device.
In the accompanying drawing, whichis made the full size of the vent, Figure I is a vertical section through the valve, air-passages, and stop-cock. Fig. II is a plan view with the cover removed, showing the valve and airpas sages. Fig. III is a-side elevation.
Like letters of reference designate like parts in each of the figures.
A is the body of the vent, which is cast hollow, and is provided with a tapering part, B, to enable it to be used in spigot-holes of diiierent sizes. The hollow neck C communicates with the air-tight chamber above through airpassages b b b. D is the cover, which is arranged to screw onto the body of the vent against a packing-ring, d, as shown in Figs. I and II. gis a valve-seat formed in the airtight chamber G, and is provided with a valve, g. H is a stop-cock of ordinary construction for closing and preventing the passage of air into the eask when it is not required. The air is admitted through this cock and opening-h into the valve-chamber t', when. it raises the valve and passes through the openings b b b and hollow neck C into the cask, as shown by the arrows in Fig. I, to occupy the space made vacant by the drawing ofi' of the liquid.
The object of the invention is to make, at a moderate cost, a vent for beer and other casks, which can be easily cleaned, and one that shall be suficientlystron g and compact to withstand the hard usage to which it may be subjected.
Claim.
The combination and arrangement of the part A, air-tight cover D, valve g', air-passages' b b b and h, and stop-cock H, substantially as
