To all whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HUGO W. WE'IMER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mil- Waukee, county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tube-Mills, fully described and `represented in the following specification and the accompanying draw*- in s, forming a part of the same.
his invention relates particularly to that wcllknown class of machines for grinding or crushing ore and other materials, commonly known as tube mills or ball mills, the especial object being to provide an improved discha'rge diaphragm or screen construction for such mills.
The discharge diaphragms or screens used on such mills are large and heavy,- and it has been found difficult to vmount them satis` factorily so that they are held rigidly in position and against movementaround the mill in the direction of its rotation, while at the same time providing for a quick and convenient removal and replacement of the diaphragm and screen when necessary. The present. invention provides a verysimple,-
cheap and efficient construction and mounting of the diaphragm, kin which the diaphragm is'dividcd into sections hinged at their outer periphery in such manner as to avoid rotation in the mill head,.and with the sections secured at the center, so that the sections may readily be connected to the head at their periphery and then swung downward and secured at the Vcenter by a single holding means and any section may Y readily be removed and re laced by releas l ing the holding means wit out moving the other sections.
For a full understanding ofthe invention, a detailed description of a construction embodying the invention in its preferred form, as applied to a tube mill of a common type, will now be., given in connection with the accompanying drawings forming a part of' this specification, andthe features forming the invention thenspecifically pointed out in the claims. i

What is claimed is: 1. In a tube mill or the like, a diaphragm divided into sections, in combination with means for hinging the sections lto the mill at their outer periphery and securing the sections at the center. i,

In a tube mill or the like, the combination with a transverse head or wall having recesses forming one member of a hinge, of a diaphragm divided into sections, each of said sectionsrhavlng lugs entering said recesses to form the other members of the hinge, said recesses and lugs being :formed to hold'the diaphragm against. withdrawal when in working position and to ermit the sections to be inserted and remove when swungout of working position, and a single clamping means for securing the inner e'dges of the sections in working osition.
