Description

J. C. MORRISON PISTOL.4
APPLlCATION FILED SEPT.!3. |918.
Patented J an. 7, 1919.
'JOHN C. MORRISON, OF SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
EISTOL.
Application led September 13, 1918.
To all trimm/it may once/"n: .Y
Be it known that l, JOHN C. MORRISON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane. in the county of Spokane and State of lifvashingtou, have invented new and useful lmprovenients in .Pistols7 of which the following is a specification.
)ly present invention has for its object to provide a pistol embodying a simple and inexpensive appartenance designed and adapted to provide a considerable distance between. the front sight and therear sight, to `guard the hammer lug against possible accident, to render the pistol capable of being smoothly and easily drawn, and to ati'ord a comfortable and steady grip.
To the attainment of the foregoing, the invention consists in the pistol equipped as hereinafter described and delinitely claimed.
ln the arcomlninying drawings which are hereby made a part hereof:
Figure l is a side elevation of a pistol of the revolver type equipped with my novel vention is applicable to any type of pistol.v
In furtherance of my invention I provide in conjunction with the frame 1 and a forward sight 2 on the barrel .3 of the pistol, the appurtenamfe el which rests over and forms a guard to the hammer lug 5 and serves to render the weapon easy to` draw a ud absolutely safe. The said appartenance is in the form of a bar which extends rearwardly Hush with the upper side of the pistol frame and is provided at its rear end Specification of Letters :Patent Patented Jan. g.
serial No. 253,926.
with a rear sight G. T he said bar is fixed at its forward end to the pistol -frame and merges at itlc rear end into a depending portion which, in turn, merges into a forwardly extending upwardly curved portion 7 which is fixed at its forward end to the rear side of the upper `portion of the pistol grip 8. The rear sight -6 on the bar is located a great distance in rear of the forward sight which is advantageous inasmuch as it contributes to the accuracy of aim, and the lower forwardly reaching; and curved portion of the bar is desirable because it en ables the operator to obtain a desirable hold on the grip. It will also be noted that my novel bar permits of the hammer lug being readily retracted when it is desired to cock the pist-ol.
Notwithstanding the practical advantages ascribed in the forepfoing?r to my novel appurtenance, lit will be readily appreciated that the same does not add to the length of the pistol and that. it increases the weight of the pistol to a very slight extent.
Having described my invention what l'. claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a pistol, the combination with a barrel having a forward sight, a frame, a grip, and a liannner lug extending upwardly from the rear portion of the frame, of a bar appurtenance comprising au upper portion fixed at its forward end to the frame and extending rearwardly from the frame and above the hammer lug, and provided at its rear end with a rear sight, a, depending portion -into` which the upper portion merges at its rear end, and al forwardly extending and upwardly curved portion into which the de pending portion merges at its lower end; the said forwardly extendingand upwardly curve-d portion being fixed at its forward end to the rea-r Side ot' the frame.
In testimony whereof l nilix my signature.
